Lennoxx Tibbs, the man shot down in the middle of a city street Thursday morning, had a playful personality, could be hilarious at times and was a loving father to his young daughter, according to his former girlfriend.
"My heart is just broken," said Ruth Morley of Hyde Park, Mass., the mother of Tibbs' 7-year-old daughter. "Whoever did this to him, I just hope they get found and get whatever they deserve because they took a great person."
She said Tibbs, 26, told his mother he had been receiving threatening calls on his cell phone. His second floor apartment at 259 Wilson St., where he lived for the past two months, had been burglarized days before he was shot down, Morley said.

TIBBS
"I'm assuming he had something they wanted," she said, referring to three men who reportedly chased him down Wilson Street, near Hayward Street. A witness told UnionLeader.com yesterday that when one of the three men shot him from a distance of 10 feet, Tibbs collapsed in the middle of the street. Police found him dead minutes later.
Morley said Tibbs was a private man who did not confide in her but he was hanging out with individuals she described as "not good people." Tibbs, she said, was a nice guy but "a lot of people took advantage of him."
Tibbs had recently completed a prison sentence for assault.
Jeffrey Lyons, spokesman for the state Department of Corrections, said Tibbs began serving a 1 1/2 to 3 year sentence on April 17, 2008. He was paroled this past August.
As part of his sentencing, he was ordered to make restitution of $6,656.50 and was barred from having any contact with the victim.
Tibbs also was to complete an anger management program and the court recommended prison officials provide Tibbs with drug and alcohol treatment and counseling.
He also had a DWI conviction and had his license revoked in March 2008.
No arrests have been made in the murder, which is this week's Crime of the Week.
Police said they have no description of the suspect.
This afternoon, investigators said Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jennie V. Duval's autopsy determined that the cause of Tibbs' homicide was gunshot wounds to the neck and chest.
Anyone with information concerning the murder is asked to call Manchester Crimeline at 624-4040. Crimeline will pay up to $2,500.00 in cash for anonymous information that leads to the arrest and indictment of individuals involved.
CORRECTION: The Associated Press has reported that Lennoxx Tibbs served time in prison for assaulting an adult. When first posted, this story said the assault was on a child.

It is a sad thing for his family and friends. It is also a sad thing to watch a great working class city turn into a Lowell or Lawrence. Dont get me wrong any city over a 100,000 is going to have its shady areas but WHAT IS HAPPENING TO NEW HAMPSHIRE?? Haven't you all noticed that in the last few years our state has a Mass feel too it? Not just in the rising crime/Welfare rate, I'm also talking about the direction and principles this state was founded on. Ive been a resident of NH my whole whole life and it used to be a conservative, low tax state based on personal responsibility instead of the big "Goverment" state. Anyways our Governor has tripled taxes and fees and increased the welfare rate:) ....Bye Bye NH...

. You gonna work on that? Sister - and I don't know if this will get in and reach you - but you know. There is is a big, bad, world of pain.
Hurts the worst when you can't be there to do something to make it less.
There were good sides, and bad sides. It gets all screwed up.
You don't know all the bad ---- that was happening here; like we don't know all the bad ---- going on there.
But Sister, you are wiser than when you deployed. Bring it back with you.
No, the ignorant don't now nothing. They need to be taught.
Please remember - you can't force-feed knowledge, nobody can be. People have to come wanting it.
Respect and salute. My sense is you are a wise woman, or getting there.
Wise enough to know this isn't about your sister and her man - it's about something bigger than that.
I usually challenge people to prove me wrong. This time I would ask you prove me right.
The truth is the truth. The bad is the bad - and the good is the good
If so, I'd like the salute to be in person.
Be strong. Somehow, I know you are. Teach that, too.

Stop knocking people just because of their past! This man, this family member, died as a result of having been shot. Start knocking those responsible for enforcing the law around Manchester....the Manchester Police Department! If they were out on patrol maybe things like this could be better avoided.

Lennoxx was a great guy. So funny and he lived for his daughter. Material things didnt mean anything to him. He had such a good sense of humor and helped out so many people. He had such a big heart. The memories i shared with him i will never forget... He was one of a kind. I cant stand to read the negitive comments. I knew him and i know he was an amazing person and a great father and i pray everynight for him and his family. This loss has caused so many to suffer. I will never forget him.. ever

good guy-not. What is sad is that many women of this generation do not take the time to get to know the people they hang out with. There is an assumption that if they were good guys today or to you, that they always were, while the guy leaves a wreckage in his past. People do change, I am an example sober 23 years, but it take work and I know today I wont be gunned down in the street.
Murder is murder and everyone deserves justice, the perps should not get away with it, he is still a man.

The only thing missing from this story is: "He was beginning to turn his life around" and "he was working on getting his GED."
- eddie, manchester
For the posters that say, "no one deserves to be gunned down in the street", I disagree.
Getting gunned down in the street is either a random act of violence, or an occupational risk in law enforcement. Those people do not "deserve" it.
For other people getting gunned down in the street is a foreseeable risk they took by making bad choices in picking who they hang out with or in engaging in illegal activity. I've got no sympathy for them.
If you don't like the public opinion in the comments section, don't read the commentary.

iknow people make mistakes in there past that they have to live with but he went to jail served his time and hopefully learned from his mistake

Well as usual the postings to a news storyof this kind have not disappointed me.People dont even care that the man was killed just about prior offenses committed by him so because he made mistakes in the past now he is of no worth and "karma" has been served. All of you who have posted comments that speak to this mans past and have no knowledge of his life or situation should be ashamed. The man is dead a girl is without her father other people have lost a friend and family member. You all are ignorant heartless people and should really stop trying to be judges of what others should do and suffer. This is what really is wrong with this great country today that kind of attitude.Shameful.

This man may not have been a saint, but neither am I, and I'm not going to sit here and judge the man, thats not up to me. No one deserves to be but down like that in the middle of the night on a lonely street in a hail of gunfire. I'm sure the police are working a lot of leads because there are some nasty individuals that need to be arrested for what they did.
As you get older the world just seems to get even more mixed up with each passing year. If I could get someone to buy my house for what it's worth I'd love to get out of town permanently, but unfortunately this is my home and all I can do is put my faith in the law and our local police to do what they need to do.
My heart goes out to this guys family and friends.

My sister and niece have suffered a great heartache and loss with this. This is a comment forum for your thoughts but regardless of whether you personally feel it was deserved, right, wrong, or consider his past record, please respect that FIRST before you make tasteless comments challenging what she has said in her time of mourning. You don't know her, and you don't know him any further beyond what you just read, so please have a little respect.
- Sister, currently in Iraq
Some people are the victims of random violence. Some people are killed because they chose to hang around stupid people who do stupid things. I think the context provided by the article gives the background on which category this killing falls into.

Please Tom, Manchester.
You make a bold statement.
Please back it up. Please explain how "... all ...lawsuits, crimes and upheaval that could have been prevented."
Otherwise, it's an ignorant statement to make. Please man up and show you are not ignorant.
I mean if you're right, please explain so we all will understand what you're trying to say.
Because, you didn't say it therefore it's meaningless. But I, as I'd guess anyone who wonders what you're trying to say, would really want to know.
Me, I'm stuck on all these nice guys and girls who wouldn't hurt a fly just get in with the wrong people and bad things happen. See, I don't get that. When does being a bad person start?
- RP, New Boston
I have been a resident of Manchester for 45 years. It has become Lowell/Lawrence north.....sad....

'I'm assuming he had something they wanted'
Of course you know more then your telling. What do you assume he had on him?
- James, manchester
This man didn't deserve to be gunned down. He obviously was not an upstanding person, but he didn't deserve to be shot in the middle of the night - in the middle of the road.
I hope justice is served.
I live less then two blocks from where this happened. FEAR is what I feel. For myself and my teen children.
- Laurie, Manchester
You know that saying "if you don't have something nice to say, then don't say it".
Well I think that applies when your something to say is in the comments section of an article about someone who has recently died. You don't have to mourn him or even feel badly about his passing. Just don't write nasty things that his family and friends will see if they read this article. In other words, show a little respect and maybe just a little bit of class or say nothing at all.

First of all my condolences to the victims family. Second of all a man was shot dead in cold blood. What does his stint in jail and DUI on his record have anything to do with this? Seriously?
- Mike, Manchester, NH
Anyone know of a good Realtor and Moving Company? Time to get out of Dodge!
- CJ, Manchester
And so it begins....Murders happening all over ther streets, armed robberies and over-crowded prisons. The prison system is in a pre-riot state and crime in NH is increasing rapidly. So much for public safety/ I think Mr. Lynch has made some poor choices for the Departmetn OF Corrections and yu will see it's downward spiral continue. Here comes all the lawsuits, crimes and upheaval that could have been prevented.
