Mont Vernon – Three weeks after the murder of Kimberly Cates in her home, her family has broken their silence and issued a statement to the press.
On Oct. 4, Kimberly (Piasecki) Cates was killed during a home invasion and robbery shortly after 4 am. Her 11-year-old daughter Jaimie was seriously injured in the attack and spent several weeks in the hospital. She returned to Mont Vernon Village School, where she’s a sixth grader, this week.
The four men charged in connection with the murder, Steven Spader and Christopher Gribble, both of Brookline, and William Marks and Quinn Glover, both of Amherst are currently in jail awaiting trial.
The following is the statement from David and Jaimie Cates and their extended families in its entirety:
"Jaimie, David and the Cates/Piasecki families would like to express our thanks for the wonderful care, concern and protection showed by the staff at Children's Hospital Boston. It is truly an amazing place with the most amazing staff.
"Thanks to their expertise and the many prayers of our friends and the community, Jaimie is continuing her recovery at home.
"Our families would like to acknowledge the outstanding work and intensity shown by the quick arrest in the horrific death of our beloved Kimberly. We specifically would like to acknowledge the New Hampshire State Police, Mont Vernon Police, Milford Police, Amherst Police, Brookline Police, Nashua Police and the Attorney Generals Office. We know that due to their actions and the timely arrest, our community has an improved sense of security.
"Finally, we sincerely appreciate all the thoughts, prayers and well wishes from our wonderful community at home and across the nation. The outpouring of support in this extremely difficult time is overwhelming. Jaimie and David are continuing to recover and we covet your ongoing thoughts and prayers during this time of healing.
Respectfully,
David & Jaimie Cates
The Cates family"

YOUR COMMENTS
Not so much comment. Easy to understand that anything said to these words and feelings can seem trivial and so insufficient.
But I suspect everyone who has read this has had the same reaction:
Amazing grace.
And bowed their head, and cried.
At the same moment smiling for the strength and courage.
Amazing grace, times thousands.

I send thoughts and prayers EVERY day, and hope in some small way, all the love being sent to you will help.
God-Bless you!

Why the support from the community has been praiseworthy, this family is going to need a tremendous amount of support for months and years to come. I truly hope that many people realize that David and Jaimie will need our thoughts and prayers over the long haul and not just when their lives begin to see a bit of normalcy restored.

This father and daughter are two truly remarkable human beings and the strength they have is incredible. Despite the tragedy they have endured they continue on and are working toward healing. Our prayers are with them and I only hope that their strength encourages others to go on as well when they have tragedies.
