Driver ejected in Auburn rollover crash
AUBURN – A driver was taken to the Elliot Hospital with serious injuries early this morning after he was thrown from a van that rolled over and crashed into a tree off Route 121.
The crash, near Massabesic Drive, was reported at 3:43 a.m.
The name of the operator and his condition were not available this morning.
Officer Dave Garofano, who is investigating the crash, said the man is in his late 40s and is a New Hampshire resident. However, Garofano said his name is being withheld at this time because police have yet to reach his family.
The man was seriously injured but is expected to survive, Garofano said.

I don't know where this guy's van is registered. But I do know that the cost of this accident and the medical bills involved are charged back to the town where the vehicle is registered and impacts the insurance rates there, Since use of a seat belt most likely would have reduced his injuries and the claims his insurance company will pay out, it also would have less impact on the insurance rates. So no, choosing to wear or not wear a seat belt in not a personal decision that affects no one but the driver. It affects insurance rates of other drivers.

Bob and SD,
Is it possible he was working late hours and just dozed off?
Why the assumption that he was speeding or drunk?
Maybe he was, but let's wait until the police confirm it before jumping all over him.

Bob - Very well articulated.......I AGREE!!!!!!!!

If he hadn't hit the tree he would have been fine too – Jay, why don’t you work on enacting laws about hitting trees?
- Sara, Manchester
Jay - enacting a law does not guarantee compliance – and it’s hardly up to you, or any other individual to decide this for another.

don't need a seat belt law Jay, people will wear or not wear them either way, no need for another law.
I do not know what this situation involved, but perhaps it would be better for people to drive slower, not drive like idiots, pay attention, not drink and drive, ect. and take responsibility for their own actions.

To Jay. Even if there was a mandatory seat belt law in NH it does not always mean he would have been wearing it. I have lived in a few states that had these laws and i still choose to not wear it. Yes it is the safe way to drive but people will always do what they want. I do hope for a speedy recovery for this gentleman.

This is the "Live Free or Die" state, remember Jay?

If only the state had enacted a seat belt law this person would have been saved! Because they'd have their hard earned money stolen from them!
