Dale Bozzio, 54, lead singer from the '80s band Missing Persons and a former Playboy bunny, began serving a 30-day sentence at the Carroll County Jail Thursday on an animal cruelty charge.

She was arrested in October 2008 after authorities found sick and dead cats at her West Ossipee home, a dozen of which were later euthanized by the Lakes Region Humane Society.

Bozzio had argued that she had left the cats in the care of a friend who never showed up.

Bozzio was convicted of one count of animal cruelty, with 11 of the other charges dismissed at a trial in Southern Carroll County District Court in March.

On May 21 she was sentenced to 90 days in jail, 60 of them deferred for two years, according to Steve Murray of the Carroll County Attorney's Office. Bozzio was also ordered to pay $2,700 for euthanization of the 12 cats and ordered to complete 250 hours of community service and serve 90 days in jail, 60 deferred for two years.

She was also ordered not to keep domestic animals on her property.

Bozzio appealed the conviction and asked for a jury trial but withdrew her appeal this week and reported to the county jail to serve her sentence.

Max, if not for your comment, the title of this story would have sounded absolutely absurd. I have never even heard of this band. I appreciate you for elightening this fine Monday morning. And John I also appreciate you for enlightening me this morning but what they heck are you talking about. Did animal cruelty set of some repressed emotions about gambling?

$ 2700 to euthanization of the 12 cats seems to be high. That is $ 225.00 per cat. There is apparently a good profit in it.
What do they get for a cow or horse? Is the cost based on weight?

I hope she was remorseful over the cat's. Its hard to forgive someone that allows that to happen .
"Missing Person's" provided some great songs and I hate to think she did this on purpose.
"Walking in LA ", "Destination unknown" , "Words"... all great songs of my younger days. . I hope she gets her life together and can redeem the harm she's done by at least refraining the desire to take on any more pets.

Absolutely right John... Animal Cruelty is bad too.

Uh....John....did you read this story before commenting?

Why is it the State of NH. will sell you a $30 scratch ticket (if your lucky you win $10 back),but they won't let you play a nickel slot. I am not in favor of expanded gambling. I think NH. should do it right and legalize casino's. I think Pease Air base would be the perfect place. Pease is so close to Maine and Mass. The Highway system is there with 95 and 101, don't forget it is an airport. All they would need to do is connect the Norheaster train line and we could have a Gambling Meca. Tyhink of the Jobs ,the income. Lets get the dice rolling.
