To Steve in Manch, who said we don't "need" homosexuals in the GOP, apparently, we already HAVE homosexuals in our party - Matt Mayberry's been active for a few years now as a candidate and campaigner for others, and while I'm not sure he'd be the best chair (there will be a lot of great choices, I bet) he'd be an interesting candidate and won't rule him out just because of his orientation. His views, on the other hand, may or may not disqualify him. As it should be.
- Stephen A., Manchester

Too bad Fran can't lead us... she has principles.

As for being the boring party, I doubt the Dems are boring with their controversial leader Buckley and his scandalous home videos. Wow, if he were a Republican, he'd be out on his butt for more than just moving his foot to the side. LOL

Also, the Dems are up to no good already with at least 4 income tax bills and even a bill to eradicate traditional marriage between a man and a woman. I call that exciting in a bad way.

NH is becoming one terrible place to live with these people in charge.
- Sue, Manchester

After ready some of the posts in response to Matt Mayberry’s potential run for NH State Republican Party Chairman I felt the need to comment. I am sorry and sad to hear that some would discriminate against Matt Mayberry simply on his sexual orientation. The primary deciding factor for picking our next NH Republican Party Chairman should be who would be the best person to lead the party for the next coming years. Some may think that for me to decide to not discount Matt because of his sexual orientation makes me less conservative, I assure you this is not the case. I have always supported a very conservative agenda that includes the right to bear arms, I have always advocated for lower taxes, limited government, local control, I have been pro-life my entire life, and have always defined marriage as one man and one woman. I have also always supported individual freedom and that includes letting people make their own decisions, for that is a thread that runs through the soul of all that makes us Americans. Those who would use Christianity as a basis for attacking Matt, I remind you that Jesus loves us all, including Matt Mayberry. I think there is a chance Matt may bring some new constructive ideas to the race for Party Chairman. Even if someone wants to make the case that he might bring ideas that may conflict with certain beliefs we hold dear as a party, I would ask is it not healthy to challenge beliefs. I find when my beliefs are challenged it only strengthens my beliefs and give me perspective. I consider Matt to be a friend and whether he decides to run or not I think everyone needs to know this. Anyone who truly knows Matt knows that he has always been a very valued member of our party. I am not endorsing Matt for Chairman, but if he feels that he can best serve our party thru this difficult time I want to hear him make his case. In response to Steve from Manchester who thinks “We don’t need homosexuals in our party to win elections.” Steve we will need everyone if we want to have a chance of rebuilding our party into the majority party. This does not mean we need to sacrifice our beliefs, but we do need to be inclusive of those who want to bring there gifts and talents to the Republican Party.

What in the world does a person's sexual orientation have to do with their ability to lead a political party?

I don't know how Mayberry is, or isn't qualified to be party chair, though apparently the GOP is willing to elect anyone - ala - Cullen, but certainly one's sexual orientation is neather qualification for or against.

I PRAY more people like Steve from Manch speak up about the "path" the GOP in NH should take - won't be long before they (GOP) go the way of the wooly mammoth - extinct.
- Corey Corbin, sandown

If this man wasn't gay, he wouldn't have even been mentioned as a candidate. The answer from he NHGOP will be a polite "no, thank you." Those who are trying to say that our current chairman is inexperienced will definitely think it's so of Mr. Mayberry. I will also note that the NHGOP platform is not a pro-gay marriage one, and never will be.
- James, Manchester

Good for Mayberry. He represents the future of the GOP: tolerant and up to date with America's demographic reality.
- Francais Greene, Plymouth, NH

Steve, I don't worry about homosexuals in the Republican Party. But I do worry about the thinking that treats Mayberry's homosexuality (or his membership in a Republican organization that advertises his homosexuality) as a strategic advantage. If this is why he is getting attention, it's part of the same temptation to appeal to the opposition that produced the 2008 disaster. Believing that Republicans will be unable to sell their message and seeking to co-opt pieces of the Democrat message is surrender before the battle.

Whoever becomes the Republican chairman, if Judd and Jeb are on top of the 2010 ticket, we'll know that Republicans are practicing Einstein's "insanity" of doing the same things and vainly expecting a different outcome.
- Spike, Brentwood NH

A personal injury lawyer is filing over a dozen "insurance-related" bills?

No conflict of interest there, right?
- Clyde, Goffstown

Allowing Log Cabin Republicans into the State GOP is like allowing communists into the State Department. Their goal is not the success of the party, it is it's destruction. Any gay 'republican' should be viewed as a covert agent and spy. Look what they did for Bob Dole.

Radical Democrats threw out pro-life adherents like Governor Casey of Pennsylvania. They would not let him speak at their convention. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_P._Casey#1992_Democratic_National_Convention_controversy But homosexuals want time and the stage at the GOP? NO WAY. Their party once had many pro-life democrats in it, where now there are none. They took a hard turn left, marginalize them for the radicals they are! Have you seen the riots in California?

The emergence of Mayberry shows the homosexual's fear now that the silent majority has awakened. There are still many more of us than them. We don't need homosexuals in our party to win elections.
- Steve, Manch

Matt Mayberry for GOP Chairman! Not to be rude but are you serious? Sounds like the the Bataan death march for our party. Look it up folks!
- Mark Bingham, Portsmouth
