Two late goals propelled Hartford to a 2-0 win over the visiting Manchester Monarchs in AHL action last night.

The loss dropped Manchester to 10-4-2 while Hartford improved to 9-7-0. The Monarchs will play at Binghamtom (6-7-2) tonight at 7 p.m. Manchester returns home on Wednesday to host Norfolk at 7 p.m.

Last night's game was a tight one throughout, with the goalies' solid play keeping the game scoreless until late when Derek Couture broke through on Jonathan Bernier with a goal at 16:54. That marker came on the heels of a flurry of activity on the other end that Wolf Pack goalie Chad Johnson (26 saves) turned away.

Just 38 seconds later, Dane Byers made it 2-0 with a rush down the left side and a shot that beat Bernier. Byers had just been sent down from the New York Rangers the day before.

The Monarchs pulled Bernier for the extra attacker but could not break through on Johnson.
