City officials have come up empty in their search for someone to buy a 124-acre stretch of undeveloped land on Hackett Hill.

I know the news about "the credit crisis" and "the mortgage meltdown" is probably making your head spin and thinking that your current place is "not that bad" or that now is not a good time to buy.

Sometimes you will do the project yourself and other times you may hire someone to do it for you. In each of those instances you may eventually come up against one of the sins of remodeling.

Major reconstruction planned for Bedford Mall

By STEPHEN BEALE
Union Leader Correspondent

After a proposed redevelopment, the Bedford Mall would no longer be a mall. Instead, it would be replaced by an L-shaped shopping plaza at 93 South River Road with several medium to large-size box stores, anchored by a Kohl's.

Christmas Tree Shops = more crap from China
- Diana, Hooksett

Yes the Hudson Mall is still alive & busy. The Chic-Filet-a is still in the PLM in Nashua.

Sgt Silva Scott in Iraq--THANK YOU for being there. You are in our nightly prayers.

I would love to see a Market Basket or Christmas Tree Shop. Most times there isn't enough time to squeeze a trip to Nashua for this store since it is a store to spend browsing time in. A Sonic would be a real treat & NH has nothing like it. Their drinks are all that they look to be & my family looks forward to our visit to TX for the Sonic treat.

Angie in Plano, the school might be better than your area in TX but I hope you know about the higher grocery prices up here & Oh, I haven't been able to find dry black beans in a long time so make sure you bring plenty to go with New Years dinner.
- Lynn, Manchester, NH

Oh dear Sidney - you really need to stop looking at Bedford through your rose colored glasses. Isn't there a strip joint and a Walmart there?

We don't have either of those in Raymond! As a matter of fact no mortgage either on my nice lake front property.

You really should read the book the Millionaire Next Door. I assure you the true millionaires of this world do not live and think as you do. They shop at Walmart and Market Basket and laugh all the way to the bank.

We all put our pants on the same way, one
leg at a time. You certainly are not above the rest. Time to grow up!

As a matter of fact, I think a Christmas Tree Shop or Trader Joe's would be perfect.

Oh, and for LA what quiet bedroom community are you speaking of? There has been more crime in Bedford since I moved here 3 1/2 years ago than there has in Raymond.

Need I say more? I think I made my point.

Robin in Raymond
- RobinLong, Raymond NH

Raze it all and provide the citizens with a co-op garden plot. By this time next year, you'll realize why it was a good move.
- David, Manchester

This is great! Me and my homeboys are looking forward to spending some time in Bedford. Maybe we can meet some rich folks with a big house we can hang out with and drink some brews.
- Felix, manchester

It's amzing reading through the comments. Beford people are as bad as I thought and I work in that town. As one person put it, they didn't want to have "low income" attacting stores in thier precious "high class" town...what's Marshalls? Isn't there whole marketing campagin to other brand names for less?

You don't consider this store to be for the "low income" people? Hmmm....they have the same things you can get at Macy's for abour half of Macy's prices.

On another note, REI would be fabulous here of a Trader Joe's....driving to Mass for these stores is quite a pain!!
- J, Litchfield

Sidney of Bedford: God I hope you are being funny because if you are not:
First of all; Boycot? Boycot what?.. an empty shell of a building you currently call the Bedford Mall? Perhaps you should focus on your $700,000 mansion that you barely can even afford the taxes on, or your 3 Mercedes, more than what store goes in YOUR mighty Bedford Mall, I mean "Sidney's Mall" !
- Dave, manchester

Whatever they decide to build in this area will be accepted with open arms... as long as it does not attract those people from Derry to our town.
- Marc, Bedford

Why not a church, or a park, or a play ground, or a museum or a cultural center. Oh yeah, because no one would go. So sad that the only redevelopment opportunities are just more of the same -more unnecessary outlets for spending that do little to improve the lives of those who might use it.
- D, Bedford

Having a movie theatre that has Papa Gino's pizza might do well in the new Bedford shopping complex.

Bedford might want to ask Cinemagic or another theatre company if this would interest them.

REI, EMS, or LL Bean could be asked if they would like to have a store in the Bedford shopping complex.
- Ken Stremsky, Manchester, NH

This is an outrage! Bedford deserves and demands better. We will boycot this lower cast stores and bring our business to stores that cater to our upper class needs. The other outrage is that these stores will bring people into Bedford that don't understand our life style. We need a "Bedford only" shopping center that will cater to our well earned place here in the world.
- Sidney, bedford

The contention that Market basket makes no community donations is either profoundly ignorant or an outright lie.

Just ask Gifts of Hope, or the Cornucopia Food Pantry in Durham, which is generously supported by the Lee Market Basket.
- Rich, Bennington

Sure bring in Market Basket. You could also put right next to it a Building 19, and a Family Dollar, and a Goodwill store too. How about a nice used car dealership? Go check out the community donation board at any Market Basket... oh wait, they don't have one!! That's because they don't do any! We should be lucky for what we have. Stop and Shop and Hannafords do quite enough for the community, and we should thank them for it.
- William, Manchester

Como esta? We are moving from TX to Bedford because of their schools. It isn't about being uppity - it's about
making sacrifices for our kids.

The more stores the better! Then there is something for everyone! Diversity you all - it's healthy.
- Angie, Plano, TX

There are other places in Bedford to get pizza besides Papa Ginos! Try something other than a chain restaurant. Try one of the local mom and pop stores that support your local sports teams or donate the gift certificates to every local organization who asks, drops off pizzas and water to the fire department when they are at a fire late at night for hours and need nourishment to keep going (all for free, no tax dollars spent). Try Pizza Mia, we deliver to most of Bedford all day, every day!
- Jennifer, Bedford, NH

The closest Market Basket to the So River Road location is 101-A Merrimack/Nashua line, about 15 miles away.If Market Basket located near Maceys my family would shop there twice every week. It's a great store with better prices than any of the others.
- gary lefebvre, merrimack nh

We do not need another basic grocery store in Bedford- S&S is two feet away, We have a Hannaford & Shaws is close, etc. A new basic store won't help anything - We need to be smart - to bring in something different.

A Christmastree shop? We have one 20 min away in Nashua - why do we need another one so close? It sells junk anyway. A Target? - down the street.
Fa(s)t food? Why on earth do we need one - drive further down Sourh River and there is all the fa(s)t food you want. Can't drive an extra 5 minutes? Give me a break. All of these are bad ideas.

We need to be business minded and not to just plop in the current hot stores, or stores that are the same or exist within 20 minutes becasue in a few years hey will falter. This is the problem with NH in general. HN is a state that was once simpler - why when we have stores a half an hour away do we feel the need to have one in within 5 minutes?
- Chris, Bedford

Jeff in Bedford.

I too am fortunate enough that I can shop where I like. However, I realize that in a growing, thriving community, there must be accomodations for all; not to mention that I believe in saving a buck or two myself. If you think that is a "redistribution of wealth, and that "it must be a result of voitng for Obama", you are clearly out of touch and way, way over reacting. It is a suggestion for a supermarket for God's sake. Take another prozac and calm down. You'll get through this...
- Chris, Sutton

a shooting range would be perfect!
- fpc, manchester

Kathy in Bedford, I agree! But it's Chick-fil-A. :)

And when you have a craving, you can always go to Pheasant Lane Mall. (Or can you still? I hope so!)
- Jennifer, Atlanta, GA

I would love to see Market Basket in Bedford. When we lived in Salem, we shopped at Market Basket. When we moved to Bedford, my wife complained about how high the Stop & Shop and Hannaford prices were. Who wants to pay $9.99 for a pound of turkey breast?

Today, we go to Sam's club and twice a month to Market Basket in Londonderry.

If Market Basket comes to Bedford, I will shop there. I do not care if the perception is that Market Basket caters to customers on the lower end of the socio-economic ladder. A can of peas or a gallon of milk knows not who is consuming it.
- Paul, Bedford

I have to agree with Diana from hooksett as i agree taxes just keep going up! good luck to bedford.chandler Hooksett
- chandler, hooksett

How about a Bass Pro Shop? See, we/re not all snobs in Bedford; some of us are Rednecks, at heart!

Actually, add Christmas Tree Shops and my mother might visit more often!
- Charlie, Bedford

The mall itself is beautiful. Some store such as "Claire's" would do a great business because of "Michael's School of Hair Design" Also a ticket agency, travel agency, because that too brings traffic of all ages. UPS shipping store, again traffic. (just suggestions) Or simply open it up as Methuens' Loop. That way people will at least pull in.
- C-J, Salem,NH

I love the Bedford Mall, I remember after my Dad has his stroke and got out of Ridgewood back in 2001 he loved walking inside the Bedford Mall. The Mall of NH was too big but i the Bedford Mall was just right, I hope they don't tear it down. They did that to the Methuen Mall in Methuen and put in the Loop and it stinks. Have to walk out in the hot weather and in the winter its lousy. All this place needs is some good tenants. It was nice before everyone wanted Superstores, I remember my grandmother used to shop there at Purity Supreme and visit Montgomery Wards. The mall thrived with some very good anchors and a good blend of merchants. I truely believe if marketed right and with the right mix of retail it can turn into a thriving mall again. To me the Bedford Mall has always been the working man's mall while the Mall of NH became something like a Disney World. As someone older I rather like the Bedford Mall as it is. Please don't ruin it, I will give you a good example. Lincoln Street plaza in Manchester on Valley St. Looks like asphalt jungle same as the Loop in Methuen
- Jack Alex, Manchester

I lived in Manchester for 8 years and anyone who doesn't have a car knows that if you really want to, you can walk to the bedford mall or wal-mart or s. willow from anywhere in the city, or just plunk down the buck and bus out there. Putting in a market basket isn't going to attract unsavory individuals, they already walk amongst you, there's just no banner flag (read: reasonable prices) announcing their presence yet. Don't be fooled into thinking you're so isolated. And besides, the real issue is the Papa Ginos, that's all we really care about anyway, isn't it? Now if Papa Ginos shacked up with a movie theater again i'd be bussing out there all the time. Let's all just accept what already is and hope for the best for both communities in the new economy, your neighboor shouldn't be the object of frustrations.
- Sgt Silva, Scot, Ramadi, Iraq

I don't know what revitalization is going to do.. I loved going over to the linens store and it was always busy so I wonder why it was closed? There is some hanky panky reason why Market Basket has been locked out of this end of NH.. it's purely political.
- Sue, Manchester

I hope they move Mark's Showplace there. I'm not a customer, but it would indeed be fun to watch how worked up people would get over it! Besides, it would be one of the few places not selling Chinese goods (yes, even supermarkets sell Chinese goods) - keep your money in the good ol' USA!
- Jose H, Manchester, NH

I lived in Bedford for 3 years when I first moved into NH. There isn't a day since I left that I've regretted it. No, not EVERYONE in Bedford is ANYTHING, but there was definitely a higher proportion of snobiness in my neighborhood, and I lived SOUTH of 101.

I have issues with Hannaford and can't afford Shaw's, so when I shop in Manchester/Bedford, I go to Stop and Shop. Lately, though, I find myself heading south instead of east and hitting the Market Basket in very very north Nashua. It's worth looking at for Manchester/Bedford. Good layout, decent selection, helpful help, and great prices. It's "ghetto" reputation had scared me away for years, but I gave it a second chance, and I'm glad I did.

I know people that drive to Tyngsborough from Tilton just to hit Trader Joe's, so it wouldn't be a bad addition, certainly (and MUCH better than Whole Foods). The powers that be should do a survey of some sort. Not a vote, just a look into which one would work better. I've never understood why companies don't do this "look before you leap" step.

As far as other retail- Kohls probably makes sense, but I personally never shop there. Target is less messy. And though they pretend to cater to a more mid-level clientele, I find Kohls to really be lacking in the bang for the buck department.

Sonic gets my fast food vote. I see the ads all the time, and I want one of those slushy things (mmmm, tastes like diabetes!). If it's not them, though, Chic-fil-a would work, too. They're not open on Sunday, though.

Note to the Papa Gino's brigade: when the Methuen mall finally went, there was one remaining tenant- an Applebee's. They refused to leave. The lease said they didn't have to. So, they tore the mall down all around the restaurant. Customers didn't like walking through a minefield, and eventually, the restaurant gave in. For the safety of local pizza lovers, I hope it doesn't come to that...
- Ashley, New Boston

I usually shop at the Market Basket in Stratham, a town that is equal or greater in wealth to Bedford. The prices are much lower than Shaws, which is right next door. I also like the fact that MB is the only grocery chain that carries Schlitz Bull Ice Malt liquor. Does this make me white trash? At least I don't break into any cars on my way out. Seriously though, the Bedford mall should have been redeveloped 10 years ago. Methuen redeveloped their mall with success, but I guess Bedford residents just aren't that clever.
- Jason, Newmarket, NH

Hey Mike R

Bye, bye

It would be great to put anything back in the ghost mall, back in the day that is all we had and it was a great adventure to go there, not too many stores but it was still a huge thing, then the city stores seem to disolve, now lets put a market basket, great prices, usually good deals, no one would benefit from a costly store
- hml, Bedford

I am afraid that I do not understand all of the class(less) warfare that is stated in some of the comments.

I also do not understand how taking a nice (though enarly empty) indoor mall and making it a plaza is going to fill the empty space. I guess that is why I am not a developer.
- sally, candia, nh

I've always heard that people from Bedford were stuck up but now I believe it.

I hope they put in a Market basket.
- MC, Londondery

Anyone who thinks that business will keep your property taxes rate low should buy a home in Hooksett.
- Diana, Hooksett

Are you guys serious? Not all people in Bedford are rich snots..not all people in Manchester are "ghetto" Not really sure what is going on here? This is all about reviving a mall and making an eyesore not one anymore! EVERYONE get over yourselves....can't we all just get along! These posts are childish and ridiculous.
- Mickey, Bedford

Bedford is just glorified farm land. And you know what farm land contains. The houses are mostly made from cookie cutters. You can have your town and the crappy roads. Just because you live in Bedford doesn't make you any better then the person who lives on lower Lake Ave.
- Karen, Manchester

Years ago DeMoulas (Market Basket) and Alexanders (Hannafords) made a no-compete pact. Demoulas could have Salem and outlying towns and Alexanders would have the greater manchester area.

Bedford residents would do well with a Market Basket if you like to save money. MB is about 20% less than Shaws and at least 15% less than Hannafords for most groceries. Yea, I know snobs don't like the kind of crowd that Market Basket draws, they would rather shop in vast empty stores and spend more money than needed to feed their family, but then again, Market Basket consistently shows up in Forbe's Magazine as one of the best run, private companies in America. What do snobs know?
- Don, Londonderry

80k for 2 working incomes is not that spectacular Mike. Not everybody in Manchester is on welfare. I am not sure if you have been to the North End of Manchester lately but you should drive by and tell them that they are "ghetto" because they live in Manchester even though they live in a 600,000 dollar house. Way to group everyone together as a whole.
- Paul, Manchester

Lots of Lah-di-Dah comments from some of the Bedford folks. Please build it, quick - keep'em on their side of the city line!
- Frank, Manchester

A in Manchester says to "take our arrogance somewhere else".

Fine. I'm already considering leaving this state due to the liberal incursion from MA ruining it.

I'll close my business that employs 47 of your neighbors, A, perhaps even you...who knows?

Then they'll be unemployed. Will you give them a job? Do you have the money to do that? Will you be happy, then?
- Mike R., Bedford

To the resentful, jealous socialists here...

Yeah, we live in Bedford because we work hard and can afford nice things. We don't want undesirable sorts and low-income-targeted businesses causing the sorts of problems they do in Manchester. Deal with it. If that's what we wanted, we would live in Manchester.

You want to come redistribute our wealth, perhaps? You want to come try?

Maybe we should leave New Hampshire altogether and leave it to your sort. Go somewhere where they understand that some people earn money and want a nice place to live.

Then who would hire you? Who would give you a job if all the "rich people" you so hate leave the area?

Oh, that's right. NOBODY.

You probably voted for Obama, too.
- Jeff, Bedford

"A healthy fast food joint"????????? I don't think there is suck a thing.....

So true if Bedford is so upper class why are you the only town in NH to have a STRIP JOINT???????

get off your high Horse Bedford you are not all that, just a bunch of stuck up snobs who think they are better than everyone else...
- Jim, Goffstown

To all those thinking that making this plaza is going to cause an "urban" injection that you didn't "pay" to live in Bedford for...get over yourselves. I live in Bedford. I think there is more potential for crime now as it's never terribly busy and hardly ever patrolled past for police. Someone could break into your car now in daylight and I bet no one would notice. More stores frequented by more people means more observation and patrolling. Also to those worried about what stores will go there. Are you kidding? There is currently discount clothing, a hair school, and a pizza chain in there...really and a market basket or a fast food chain is going to kill your vibe? I find that quite humerous. At least this way your tax money will be put to use and pumped back into your town. Right now you're paying just to have people patrol empty stores for break-ins, and upkeep the parking lots and landscaping...what's the point?
- Rachel, Bedford

Wow, some of these comments about Bedford people living there, hey my wife and I are just an average family trying to make a living...
Ryan, Manchester, Never said anything bad about Manchester, we lived there since 03, kids went to Parkey Varney and Parkside before moving to Bedford...We still go into manchester to eat at the fast food...so not all Bedford people are bad ones...
- Vinn, Bedford

Some of my fellow Bedfordites seem to have forgotten the axiom that rich folks stay rich by not paying more for things than they have to. Some of history's most notorious penny pinchers have been rich.

I'm not dumb enough to pay more just because I want to think I'm impressing people by shopping in a hoity-toity grocery store (which to me is an oxymoron anyway). Bring on Market Basket! Or DeMoulas!
- Mike, Bedford

I think it would be great to see a Christmas Tree Shop in Bedford!!
- mp, bedford

I'm really surprised at some of the comments from Bedford people. I thought such sentiments were confined to Peterborough.
- Rich, Bennington

my two favorite stores: Trader Joe's and Christmas Tree shop. Put these in Bedford and you'll have plenty of people coming there to shop!
Sonic? Crappy! Put a healthy fast food joint in there! This is what people want and need!
- Austin Charles, Bedford

I agree with Floyd, they can do what they want but they better keep Papa Gino's.
- Kate, Manchester, NH

I've got news for you, LA Bedford is a CITY! Has been for a long time and if you're thinking it's not you need to open your eyes and see the box stores!

The snobbery about MB is rediculous. I shop there to save $$ for my family and my husband and I both have white collar jobs. The store in Warner is cleaner than any Shaws around!

Any of you Bedford folks who think that MB should stay out because it attracts undesirables should know that's where your childrens' teachers shop and anyone else with any good common sense! I think it's gross that you think this way, let alone would say it out loud! What are you teaching your children? Shame on you!
- L, Weare

To the community of Bedford: Break out the shovels and start digging your mote to keep those “muggers and bank robbers” from shopping in your town! I mean who in there right mind that has an average income below 80k would shop in Bedford anyways?? They’ve made it impossible for “under 80k lowlifes like us to eat in there town seeing they have an ordinance not to allow fast food restaurants. I enjoy reading blogs like this, it just goes to show who these people really are or should I say who they think they are. But it all boils down to that you’re all a bunch of hypocrites anyways, you don’t want low income muggers and bank robbers in your town but you drive over the tracks to get that big fat greasy hamburger on Second ST. Your town isn’t as quaint as you like to portray it to be, you can say what ever you want about Manchester or any other town for that matter. But in the in end theres one thing that Bedford does have that no other surrounding town has. That’s a strip joint!!!
- Ryan, Manchester

To Mike R,

So Goffstown and Hooksett are ghetto-like, wow, aren't you high and mighty! There are plenty of Bedford people who are furgal who like to save money.
- HML, Bedford

I think this is great news. There's nothing worse than seeing prime real estate sit and grow weeds, as much of the space in the mall has been doing since I can remember. I always figured the MVP lot (the former Alexander's) would be great for a Trader Joe's, but I'll welcome any revitalization we can muster.

The problem with local malls going the way of the dodo is that people are more willing to gravitate to a single place where all the stores are; it makes it riskier for a retailer to open in a smaller, more localized building. Remember, at one point there was a Gap in the Bedford Mall. We might not be poised to attract an Eddie Bauer (bad example with them pulling out of the Mall of NH anyway), but something like a Kohl's would be a great use of that space.
- Jeff, Manchester

You want people to come to Bedford? Put in a Christmas Tree Shops......then they will come!
- SuzanneD, Manchester, NH

The posters from Bedford have really cemented my beliefs that people that live in that town are uppity, pretentious, and pompous. Take your arrogance somewhere else.

I am happy to see them doing something positive with such an eyesore.
- a, Manchester

Excuse us oh upper class citizens (Mike R., Jeffrey Bank, and LA) of Bedford. God forbid a grocery store that is affordable for the "riff-raff" of other communities be built in your town.

There are some people that are actually struggling out there and can't afford to go to a Shaw's or a Stop and Shop every week. The difference in prices at Market Basket is definitely noticeable.
- Brian, Concord

This new mall will happen when you pry Papa Ginos from my cold dead hands. I will only support it if the existing franchise is either transplanted onto new property exactly as it is, or if the new mall is constructed around the existing Papa Ginos, or I may also accept a new Papa Gino's location in the new mall that is an exact replica of the existing restaurant.
- Floyd, Manchester

please bring in a Whole Foods, a Dillards and a Williams-Sonoma. I'll send Charles down to do the day's shopping.
- Doug, Bedford

Whole foods and a Chic-fil? Is the rational so you can buy recycled TP and organic vegetables while you fill up on hormone-laden factory farmed chicken
- Al, Bedford

I believe the difference between Market Basket and Demoulas is that Market Basket owns the plaza/real estate whereas those stores named Demoulas merely rent the location.

Also - here in very gentrified Portsmouth we have two Market Baskets. They don't attract undesirable elements, they merely attract families and elderly trying to buy affordable food.
- Art, Portsmouth

It would be useless to have another grocery store move into the area. If a store comes in it should be an upscale like whole foods or trader joes. You already have Hannaford and Stop and Shop within 2 miles of the location. Shaws is a short drive to Merrimack, Target has a grocery section the new hannaford up on 101 which is hardly doing an business and harvest market. A short drive to south willow st for another shaws stop and shop and another hannaford. My nephew delivers to these some of the stores and he said its a joke now, selling product. All these store take a little piece of the pie, they barely make operating cost for the stores. before you could make 1,000 or so in sales and make good money now it takes 2-3 stores to make that 1,000. Just to many stores in a small confined area.
- Mark, manchester

I dont care what stores are there. i avoid that area because of the traffic. sounds like it is going to get even worse.
- steve m, manchester

While a great idea, there are no Trader Joe's in NH (Nashua store is actually in Tyngsborough). No Whole Foods, either. Despite what is often touted, NH is unfriendly to businesses, and these chains would rather build in states they can get into easier, and have a larger population.

Also - ever notice the beer selection here is not quite as good as Vermont or Mass? Yep - over regulation by the Liquor commission and high fees to introduce new products.
- Art, Portsmouth

I would not want to see Market Basket in that space. I don't think it would be a good fit for Bedford. But then, perhaps the town planners prefer to turn Bedford into an urban community (with rising crime, drugs, etc.) rather than remain a quiet bedroom community. I did not move to Bedford to experience an urban environment.
- LA, Bedford

I would love to see a Whole Foods Market and a Chick Filet!
- Kathy, Bedford

If you haven't noticed, Market Basket only appears in plazas they actually own. Sorry no
Market Basket at this "mall". beside Hannaford's has much better meats and are pretty equally priced to Market Basket.
- Paul, Nashua

Kyle I am with you...Need a Sonic....we lived in Georgia awhile ago and ate their all the time....place was great....
- Vinn, Bedford

Oh goody, another strip mall. Pretty soon NH will look like NJ.
- Leo C, Manchester

Personally, I wish they would put in a Trader Joe's. The food is healthy and a good value. I think many people would frequent that store since the closest one is in Nashua where you have to fight horrible traffic.
- Nancy, Bedford

I haven't been in that mall for years. One by one the old malls are going away. Remember Royal Ridge Mall in Nashua? It was always quiet, but had a great hobby shop. Then Newington Mall was turned into a plaza, then Rockingham Mall and finally Nashua Mall. Also Simoneau Mall in Nashua.

Only malls left are supermalls: Fox Run, Mall at Rockingham Park, Steeplegate and Mall of New Hampshire.

Is the Hudson Mall still around? That one was tiny.
- Art, Portsmouth

Oh, right, Tammy, that's just what we want. More muggers and bank robbers coming in from Manchester, as if robbing the bank at Stop and Shop wasn't enough! Bedford residents can look forward to car break-ins to steal their blackberries and GPSes, lots of fun in the parking lot.

I'd be very happy if that area of Bedford totally gentrified. I can afford better, but I have to go all the way to Mass for an upscale supermarket. Why?
- Jeffrey Bank, Bedford

I hope they build it soon before I lose my higher paying job to this wonderful economy. Maybe I'll be able to work at two of the stores to make up for my one salary.
- Bill, Dunbarton

I too would love a Market Basket but you will NEVER see it in the Manchester/Bedford area. There is some political clout somewhere that keeps them out. Don't know what it is but I've been told it will NEVER happen.
- Susan, Manchester

I would prefer to see a store such as Whole Foods come into the area.
- LA, Bedford

Do we get a vote on the grocery store??!!

Definitely, Market Basket!
- JA, Hooksett

It's about time. Now put in Market Basket and you will draw even more shoppers from Manchester and other neighboring communities.
- Tammy, Manchester

This would be perfect for Trader Joes to move in.

Market Basket would be great . I don't feel Stop and Shop is overpriced . SHAWS definetely is .

I think it's great that the town is trying to revive the Bedford Mall area w/a strip mall. I never shop there because there is nothing of interest there, it's dull and honestly, I think it's been a waste of a mall for years, I don't understand how any business survives in that place. Bringing in Kohls and another grocery store is a great way to boost up revenue for the town. Very positive move as far as I'm concerned.

I agree, Joe. I love Market Basket and hope to see one in this area soon. I believe the two huge chain stores being here have even caused Hannaford to raise their prices. And don't even get me started about Shaws' deceptive pricing.

Bring on Market Basket!!!

Oh Yes! Want to guarantee the viability of the new plaza? Just include a Market Basket grocery store!
- Dick, Bedford

The fast food restaurant should be a Sonic... I would eat there everyday! Why there is no Sonic in New England I have no idea.

Hey Joe... There's a Hannaford down the road from there. Shop there if you want to save money. Remember the uproar when everyone wanted Stop and Shop in the area... "oh it's going to bring competition to the area, lower prices everywhere, etc" All it brought was more traffic to two densly traveled areas (Bedford and South Willow)! And I haven't seen the prices drop yet!

I would be so loyal to this mall if Market Basket would drop a store in it. Somebody needs to slam Stop and Shop with their crazy prices!
