An Ashland man who held up an ice cream store led police on an 18-mile chase on Route 302 before being apprehended, police said.

Charles Allen, 50, was charged with armed robbery, New Hampshire State Police said. Allen was accused of robbing Ice Cream Delights in Lincoln about 2:15 p.m.

A short time later, he was spotted on Route 3 in Twin Mountain. He turned onto Route 302, refused to stop and traveled 18 miles before stopping in Hart's Location. State police Sgt. Todd Landry and Carroll Police Chief John Trammell eventually stopped Allen.

Allen was held overnight at the Grafton County House of Corrections and is scheduled to be arraigned today.
