Obama orgy

By JOSEPH W. MCQUAID
New Hampshire Union Leader Publisher

The blatant bias of the major national news media toward Barack Obama is now so overwhelming that it would not be worth noting, except that the election of a President of the United States is involved. It is a propaganda blitz that would make the Kremlin blush.

By election day, we fully expect John McCain to be vilified as a Vietnam-era war criminal and worse. But that is only if the networks and other major media can tear themselves away from their Obama orgy.

A recent report found that since June the nightly newscasts of NBC, CBS, and ABC combined have spent 114 minutes covering Obama. McCain got 48 minutes.

But that was before this week.

The three major television networks are all scheduled to send their nightly news star "anchors'' to follow Obama on his trip to Iraq and the Middle East.

When was the last time you saw ANY of the networks do this with Sen. McCain?

If you can't recall, it is because it hasn't happened. McCain, who knows and understands and is intimately familiar with Iraq and Mideast issues, has been there many times, with little fanfare. It is because he understands these issues that he was able to argue so effectively for the surge that has dramatically improved the Iraqi situation.

The outrageous imbalance in the major media's coverage of the candidates means that the American people are going to have to work doubly hard to make the right choice in these perilous times.

I am interested that there is so little information about Obama's deceased parents. Specifically, his step-father, who used to bring him to the mosque with him, and his natural father who was an "atheist" but had a wife and two kids in Kenya, then married a white woman, then went to Harvard(instead of another college his new wife and child could have accompanied him to) and married *another* white woman and brought her home with him to Kenya. Obama's grandfather is a muslim, most Kenyans are, and we are supposed to believe that Obama's polygamous father was not??

Lets take a look at Brazil before we start on
drilling off shore and building nuclear plants
like Senator Mcain advises. They do not import
one barrel of oil.
We should not be either. Our farmers can grow all of our energy needs. And I am not talking about corn. Sugar beets for one is twice the alcohol producer that corn is.

You're absolutely right Scott, the MSM doesn't cover any scandals involving those who are closely (or even loosely) affiliated with Obama. Like have you ever even heard of that preacher guy, I think he was one of the Wrights brothers or something. Ah, whatever.
- DB, Manchester

MSM ignoring the John Edwards scandal, a guy on the short-list of Obama VP choices, is proof enough of heavy bias.
Can anyone even imagine the amount of coverage if Edwards was a republican or had any sort of association w/McCain?

- Bill, Concord

Ugh, I'm tired of hearing about this "bias in the national media." The truth is that they do have a bias, they will cover whatever gets them higher ratings...duh! In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Fox News devotes more to time to Obama (albeit negative coverage, but that distinction isn't made in this article) than McCain.

Obama is an historic, well-spoken, controversial, NEW candidate who has no shortage of juicy negative rumors swirling around him. McCain has been around for a while and the American people are plenty familiar with him from the 2000 primaries and on. He is the standard candidate for president (a dry old white man) and doesn't have an abundance of new rumors to salivate over.

This isn't some crazy friggin' conspiracy people, it's the basics of maximizing viewership.
- DB, Manchester

To ALison of Manchester:
You'd seriously vote for Condoleeza Rice? She was one of the top 3 architects of the Iraq war with Cheney and Rumsfeld. When Colin Powell tried to inject some common sense Condoleeza Rice was salivating for his job. I find it concerning that anyone in this country would vote for her any more than someone would vote for a Bush 3rd term.

Philip Chika, CO- FOX News is just one news channel. You Liberals have CBS, MSNBC, ABC, CNN, and PBS. Don't go crying about FOX not being "Fair and Balanced".

Philip Taugher, WI- I think that you need to wipe the teet-milk off of your lips. Your age is showing. Come talk to me about Poli Sci once your transcripts say something other than 'Freshman".

Wyatt, NV- Rush Limbaugh is a political commentator. NOT a member of the media. Get a grip man. Spouting DNC-tripe works only on the blogs.
- Adam Sanchez, Alexandria

After the cheerleading of the press during the run up to the Iraq war and years of so called "Fair and Balanced" reporting on FOX news, it seems only fair for the press to at least try to undo some of the damage they've allowed to happen by failing to ask the tough questions when they should have all these years.
- Philip Chika, Aurora, CO

Obama is young and interesting. McCain is old an boring. It is really not more complex than that.
- Philip Taugher, East Troy Wisconsin

I'm amazed that Republicans are aware of any press coverage other than the Fascist hate propoganda spewed out by Fox and Rush. If we were to seperate 'news' into two catagories - propoganda - where reporting is done to inflame emotion and gin up support for a viewpoint - and 'significant events' where reporting is done to report fact with unbiased candor - where to you think your articles would fall?
- Wyatt, Las Vegas, NV

The left wing, ultra slant of the media has existed for ages. Anyone with any intelligence knows to discount 99 percent of what you see on the evening news. The one percent is the commercials.

As far as any comments of Obama's middle name - it is what it is. Accept the truth. My mother always said you can judge a person by the company he keeps. I think we know what kind of person Sen. Obama is. A shallow, untrustworthy, will say anything to get elected person.

In regards to any bias by the Union Leader - show me a newspaper in this country who did not endorse a single candidate in the primaries. The coverage is what is slanted. Yes, UL endorsed McCain. I voted for Romney but will be voting for McCain in the general election. It had been close for me back in January. Now the choice is clear. We need a person of conviction, integrity and experience in the days to come. John McCain has always placed the well-being of his constituents first. He will do so after being sworn in in January.

I am disgusted with the coverage being given and the fear of speaking out against Obama in this country. Being against the man is not racism. If Condeleza Rice were running, I would be thrilled. But Obama is not worthy of the highest honor in the land.
- Alison, Manchester

The media decides who I vote for.

I vote for whoever they *don't* want me to vote for.

They make it so easy.
- John, Northampton, PA

Even the major media can see that the Obama machine is using them flagrantly, but it's a story. Meanwhile, McCain is at home, interacting confidently with people one-on-one, answering any questions thrown at him. The voters can see through what one commenter on this site called "chrome." I was feeling sanguine but am getting angry that Obama appears to have assumed credit for the hard work (and blood and sacrifice) of so many others in Iraq, and presumes to dictate the next steps. Enough! The Germans may fawn all over him, but they can't vote!
- T Foreman, Tehachapi, California

Liberals are Patriots and Islam is a religion of Peace.

Oh yeah, and Obama loves America.
- joe, Chicago, South Side

First, McCain did have the media with him in Bagdad. This was then later reviewed in depth by 60 minutes.

Second, McCain had speeches on this various topic with Sen. Lieberman behind him. Like 60 minutes, it was Sen. Lieberman who stopped Sen. McCain from mixing up the difference between Sunni & Shia. Or Iran vs those in Saudi Arabia.

Remember it was not Shia of Iran, which is a problem today, especially due to the situation in Iraq, that caused 9/11. It was extremists from the Sunni radical sect and have been supported by the Sunni group.

I hope McCain can learn the difference and remember that in his speeches.
- jerry rubin, WI

Obama is a snake oil salesman. Yesterday he was asked if he knew what he knew today, would he support the troop surge. He stated "NO" and then tried to marginalize the work of the the soldiers and give credit to the Suni awakening. He failed to recognize that the troop surge provided the security that made the Suni awakening possible. It also provided the security that made the start of political reconciliation possible which was the plan of the surge all along. I know why he cannot admit that the surge worked. He is so afraid of the far left groups like DailyKOS and MoveOn.org that he cannot mention any military success. How do you expect him to stand up to Iran and Islamic Fundamentalists when he seems to be more afraid of the far left.
- Kevin K, Huntington Beach, CA

I love it! For forty years the public has complained about MSM left bias and the MSM denied it. The American public has become so gullible in believing the MSM that the MSM no longer denies their bias; they just thumb their noses and say 'hey, look do I look a little like Obama?' hoping to be like 'The One'.

Remember, American gets exactly what American wants!
- Pal, Orlando, FL

Liberals have a great deal of trouble understanding this, so let me try to spell it out as simply and straight-forwardly as possible: opinion pieces are quite appropriate for a newspaper, that is precisely what the "Opinion" or "Editorial" page of a newspaper is for. Note how the UnionLeader has included Mr. McQuaid's piece on the opinion page. This is what ethical newspapers do. What is not cool, in fact frankly it is dishonest, is putting spin, PR, innuendo, and any other sort of opinion, whether disguised or not, in the news pages. This is what the New York Times does and that is why its reputation, readership, prestige, and profitability is plunging. One further note, increasingly AP stories are becoming inappropriate for the news section. Respectable newspapers may need to begin looking for new news sources.
- D. Wisner, E.Lyme, CT

If Obama and his supporters don't like the use of his middle name then he should have changed it years ago - right after he said that having a US President who is different, might be a plus for the US. Obama wants it both ways: play up his First African-American blah blah, but don't dare question or investigate any aspect of his life. Leave it to liberals and democrats who talk about a color/sex/religion blind society and the first thing they comment on about Obama is the first African American...
- Felixcat, FT. Lauderdal, FL

I don't understand why the MSM is so blind about Obama, I have read the list of lies and gaffes he's been caught saying and yet they keep adoring him, if it was MaCain they would have killed him politically long time ago.
- Ralph, Stratford, CT

Steven in Hudson: the Kremlin remark is appropriate. Please read about the state of the press in Russia today.
- Gary, Lindale, GA

McCain through his conservative base under the bus to kiss up to the media and earn his maverick(disloyalty) badge. Now it comes full circle to haunt him. May he rest comfortably with his leftist comrades in the mainstream media.
- Don L, Hartford CT

From the moment I heard that the three networks would be sending their anchors to personally cover at least part of Obama's trip, the image that came to mind and sticks with me is an organ-grinder's monkey, or in this case three monkeys, all trained to dance to the music, and take-off their hats to collect tips from the audience and bring the offerings back to their owner.
- C. Vail, Glenolden, PA

The differences between McCain and Obama are minimal, when you consider that both believe big government can save you from yourself, and that we can save other nations from themselves as well. I will not play along with the game of lesser of two evils, as I believe that is part of what has plunged this nation into the mess we find ourselves today.

Please visit bobbarr2008.com and give liberty a voice in the Presidential debates and beyond.
- Zak Carter, Keene

The mainstream media still will steadfastly declare that they are above bias, that it simply doesn't exist. To hell with the populace, 50 percent of whom in one national poll said that Obama is getting far more coverage -- compared with the 14 percent of those who thought McCain got better coverage. Let's face it, the MSM are trying to get Obama elected.
- Jerry, West Bend, WI

The liberal media has never succeeded in cheerleading their candidate into office when they dominated the audience and they won,t again this time.
Talk radio and the internet is where the action is.
When McCain takes the oath of office in 2009 this maverick will declare war against the liberal media and limit the access and talking points to Fox news et al with officials.
He will be a very effective president but will not waste his time with liberal media bias.
- thomas cook, stamford connecticut

Perhaps all those who keep touting Senator McCain's supposed expertise in foreign policy and foreign affairs can explain to me why he holds that reputation when:

*He repeatedly confuses Sunni and Shia sects in Iraq
*He keeps referring to Czechoslovakia when that country hasn't existed for years.
*He has made statements as recently as this week claiming that Iraq shares a common border with Pakistan.

This guy's about as expert on foreign affairs as I am.....maybe less. And even many of his own GOP colleagues in the Senate have stated their concerns that if he were President, his temper and his tendency to make snap judgements are not well suited to the office.

Finally, the news media goes where the excitement is. What's more exciting, a charismatic first-ever African American Presidential candidate visiting with world leaders (and sending a very important and positive message about the true American dream to third-world citizens), or an old man, clinging desperately to the failed policies and ideologies of his party's current leader while his surrogates complain that Americans are a bunch of whiners?

McCain's problem, besides his age, is that he is touting policies which have weakened our military and our constitution, further damaged the environment, brought us unprecedented corruption, and the weakest dollar and highest oil prices in our history. I'll be ecstatic if he gets lots of coverage exploring why he thinks we support that.

I think the media is answering that question.
- Douglas Dunham, Vallejo, CA

If McCain were doing anything---anything at all---of note, maybe he'd get a bit better news coverage. But he's got to make the media sit up and take notice. Look at the top two headlines on the UL "Election 2008" page: "Obama Meets Afghan Leader" v. "Guiliani takes McCain out to Ball Game." If y'all think the media's covering Obama too much, ask whether McCain going to a Yankees game if really newsworthy.... or, in today's case, speaking at a museum.

The media follows the action, plain and simple. Blame the McCain campaign itself for not making any sparks fly.
- Ty K, Lawrence, KS

From the first time I saw Senator Obama on TV there was just something about him which I didn’t like. That being said, I don’t care if he’s white, black, pink, or red, I don’t agree with his politics. In Flint Michigan where I live, if you are not voting for Obama, you must be a racist. The population in Michigan; both black and white think he will undo all the EVIL that bad President Bush has done. You see after Senator Obama is elected the price of gas will drop to $1.00/gallon, the Iranian government will start to love the Jews and Osama Bin Ladin will turn himself in to the nearest US Embassy. He will also institute change. Like the sign on the Electricians Union building in Flushing, MI states; Obama will change things. Ok……. Will somebody please tell me what he’s going to change that won’t hurt my wallet! The only change I hear comes from his staff, I hear words like move the country to the left, Communism, wealth redistribution, and oh yes the big one FREE HEALTH CARE. That’s a grand idea, but who’s going to pay for it; small/BIG business, tax payers, a tax on emissions from your gas grill? Well folks, no matter who writes the check, we as tax payers will end up paying for the free healthcare. Just like the price of oil has affected everything we buy now, any additional taxes on business is going to be passed along to us in the finished product, and yes, this too will affect the price we pay at the pump!

As you can tell, yes I’m a conservative, and I don’t believe that any politician has the right to tell me what to do with my money and how to run my life. (That’s the New Hampshire in me!.........”Live Free or Die”!) That is my biggest fear of Senator Obama. We are making ends meet, and I’m afraid with him in office that will change.

This morning I heard on the national news of a proposed .10/gallon federal tax hike and after calming down I called the local office of Senator Debbie Stabenow, (D-MI), and I asked the staffer who answered the phone what were the democrats in DC thinking of when they proposed this tax hike. She (Virginia) told me, “I haven’t heard about this”. My comment back to her was, “If you haven’t heard about this, then I can only assume your boss has not heard about this yet, then what are we paying her for”? This is the type of thinking I’ve come to expect not only from Michigan Democrats, but what I expect from Senator Obama.
- Rick Szczesniak, Flint MI

Obama is on a series of educational trips. With the media strategizing, parsing and explaining for him, Obama has to make a strong case regarding foreign affairs credentials. Talk about filling the empty suit. The OJT continues if the media succeeds in ramming Obama down the throat of the American electorate, as they had in the Democratic primaries, come November. Then Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper and CNN's best (biased) political team will praise Obama's speeches as remarkable, truly remarkable, and great, just great.

I hope people read Caesar: A Biography by Christian Meier. It is about Julius Caesar and the Roman Republic.

We have given the President of the United States of America far more power than the President of the United States of America is supposed to have according to our Constitution. I hope people will read the United States Constitution especially Article 1, Section 8 and demand that Congress fulfill its responsibilities. You may read the Bill of Rights and other parts of the United States Constitution at National Archives and Records Administration website http://www.archives.gov

I hope people will read the Constitution before they vote in November.

I recommend people read THE ART OF WAR by Sun Tzu translated by Samuel B. Griffith which is the best book I have read dealing with logic, strategy, and war.

I hope people will read the second revised edition of STRATEGY by B.H. Liddell Hart. It is a strategy and military history book. Field Marshall Rommel was a fan of B.H. Liddell Hart.

I hope people will read

Artful PERSUASION

How to command attention, change minds, and influence people by Harry Mills

The book discusses how politicians, business leaders, and others may be more effective good leaders.

The book discusses how people may be more effective in sales.

The book discusses how politicians and others manipulate people.
- Ken Stremsky, Manchester, NH

Of course Obama gets more coverage. Obama is riding a white unicorn with a pink mane over the rainbow on his world tour. When have you seen McCain do something like that?
- Andrew P, Alexandria VA

All the statemenst in this editorial, and all in support of this editorial are pure garbage. McSame (Bush third term) had a free ride for months while the media tried to make circus out of the Democratic cnadidates. All McSames press coverage was wildly positive. I supported McSame when he ran for the Republican nominee against Bush but now he is just too much the same, it is a danger to the US and the world. I will say that both of these candidates will be a positive departure from the failire we have.
- Fred, Bedford

Whom the press will destroy, they first beatify. Could it be that they love Obama because they sense that he will be easy meat once in office? Pratfalls aplenty await us, unctuously reported by sanctimonious scolds. There are Pulitzers at stake, boys and girls, and cub reporters are lining up to skewer the next Web Hubbell. Pity the chumps who take jobs as window dressing in Obama's administration - blessedly, they won't be long twisting in the wind.
- Paul in Colorado, Denver

I can't understand why so many Americans are willing to vote for an empty suit just because he claims to be about "change." He's the most liberal senator on Congress, he doesn't stand for anything whatsoever, he's never put forth any major policy, he has no foreign policy experience, and he believes that raising taxes will solve everything.

How is any of this good for us?

You want to talk about media bias, lets all also remember that lately, McCain's military service is being called out by liberals as something that should "not be considered" as a factor, yet 4 short years ago, these same liberals were all gushing over John Kerry's (very questionable) service to his country. The mainstream media is chocked full of two-faced liberal hypocrites, and unfortunately, as I'm finding out, so are many people who live in my town. Interestingly enough, many of them are Mass transplants. Go figure.
- Mike, Temple

It seems most people don't really understand the media. The media is neither liberal nor conservative, they are only interested in a good story that attracts viewers. Obama is a great story.

Riiiiiiiiight. I don't recall the exact numbers, but reports have been polled to show they are OVERWHELMINGLY liberal in their views. It's easy to write a flattering piece about somebody who you agree with personally.

I personally think McCain is the best Democrat to run for many years.

I'll just keep wasting my vote and sticking with the Libertarians.
- Scott, Salem, IN

1) We are a nation of whiners. That's who we have become.

2) McCain's been around for awhile, we know all his tricks and troubles and have commented on them in past elections. Obama's new, so yeah, his mistakes get more airtime right now.

3) Having an education plan that will cost more than the other candidate doesn't mean it's necessarily better, it just means it costs more. Maybe down in Texas every penny marked for education gets spent wastelessly, but I haven't seen it to be true up here in NH, and based on that experience more money just means more spending not a better program.

4) I'm sure certain anti-Bush people would love to point this out if it didn't go against their Obama Forever no matter what mentality: we finishing up 8 years of a man who intended to surround himself with good people. Last I checked, a lot of people were squawking about his choices and where we as a nation are today. I don't want good people around a president, I want a good president.
- Liz, Manchester

When we were kids we built our own cars(yeah.real screamers-big V-8's,multiple carbs etc.)We put our effort into the things that mattered most for performance, the engine and drive train. The 'sociables',guys out to impress, less capable and working with daddy's money, went more for paint and chrome.Hence the term"if it don't go-chrome it!".Obama remimds me of cheap chrome.
- Dan Glackman, Riverside,Ca

The Bush presidency has been a complete disaster and McCain has been W's biggest cheerleader. Supporters of McSame should be thankful he isn't in the spotlight, considering W's 80% disapproval rating.
- Matt, Washington

I think the reasoning behind the entourage that is following Obama everywhere he goes is rather simple. He is the first African-American presidential nominee who actually stands a chance of winning the American Presidential seat. It's a big deal that he is going to Iraq. I'm not saying that John McCain's trips to the Middle East are to be looked over; not at all. It's very important that both candidates take a trip overseas to support the troops, but with Barack Obama, comes media coverage.

I personally will be voting for Obama. If there was a Democratic nominee that I did not support, I would still vote for them over John McCain. John McCain has done amazing things for this country, and I commend him for that, but I think we need to leave some large footprints in our journey to clean up the mess that the Bush administration has left behind.

Plainly put, the media loves Obama. Pop culture has even embraced him as a sex symbol, which is rather irrelevant, but point being, he is single-handedly winning over the American public, and someone who holds that power, in my personal opinion mind you, is someone who I believe should hold the Presidency.

Thanks for reading my comment.
- Tom, Bedford, NH (formerly)

The MSM will produce a backlash that will help John McCain. If there is one person we LOVE in America it is an underdog.

John McCain will be a great president who will represent all of us!!!
- Deb Johnson, Exeter

Lets not forget that NBC, CBS, and ABC were in the tank with Bush on the War. Now not having done their home work on that one they are doing it again with Obama.

- Tom, Campton and Mike from Concord. Nice rebuttal... Obama surrounds himself with good people who he throws under the bus and terrible decisions in the people he associate with. WOW! I see you guys didn't pass Freshman english in college. That's not a very persuasive addition to the discourse.

BTW, interesting you avoid the part where Morgan from Denver talks about McCain's problems with his lobbyist buddies. Don't want to talk about the guy who represented Myanmar, or the ones who represent EADS, or Gramm's mental recession comment. Just because I'm tired and don't feel like arguing I'll just spot you that Obama has all kinds of bad associates (only 1 comes to mind) are you willing to acknowledge that Morgan might have a point about some of the idiots McCain has thrown under his bus? Be the bigger man and just admit you can see it.
- Martin, Rye, NH

"Make the Kremlin blush?" Are you living in 1974?

You're out of your mind, Joe...not in a funny, cute way, either. Somebody like you makes it easy to vote for Obama - because why on earth would I ever take your advice?
- Steven, Hudson

Rich & Charlotte Kean, Exeter, NH: Nothing but a freshman candidate, I guess the solution is a lifetime public servant. Bush sure worked out well didn't he.

Greg in Hudson if the change is so much as he's a dem and McCain is a Repub (like Bush), them I'm ALL for change.
I'd be willing to take a real Repub like Ron Paul. The evangelical types have hijacked the Repub party whuch are now out of touch with the everyday American. most people dont care about stem cell research (but will when their parents could benefit from it) abortion - the courts have decreed it's legal, move on, beside if you don't like it don't have one. People care about how they are gonna ay for their kids when they get sick, how they will pay for food etc. They don't want to pay for Iraq anymore. That country can burn for all I care, We need to secure our borders and let the rest of the world wipe itself out. Buy American, tax imports made in sweatshops, more science and math in schools...
- Victoria, Berlin

Its funny how the right wing media, as well as some of the republican comments here, make a point to use Obama's middle name Hussein, as if to associate Obama with terrorism, dicatators or Islamic fundamentalists. And its sad that many Americans are influenced by scare tactics and simple ploys such as these.
- Steve Brown, Manchester

This is awesome......one of the most biased newspapers in the U.S. complaining about a slant in media coverage! The only thing that makes me laugh more is when the U.L. complains about nepotism....how's that U.L. web site being run by your daughter working out Joe??
- Jules, Manchetser

"So what counts is whether Obama will surround himself with good people."

This IS amusing. Obama has already shown he makes terrible decisions in the people he associates with - this is putting it mildly - so the supporters of Barack Hussein Obama must now admit there is no defensible reason to vote for him.
- Tom, Campton

To Justin Lussier, Pembroke:

Do you think that your boy Obama won't have armed guards in AMERICA.

Could you lay out some of the detailed plans that Obama has for the economy? Oh, that's right, more and more taxes, welfare, subsidizing illegals, socialist healthcare, caps on income levels, higher gas and oil prices...
...oh wait, that's Bush's fault, when Obama wins, gas will be $1.00 a gallon. :)
- DF, Candia

"So what counts is whether Obama will surround himself with good people. "

Hahaha!!! Oh Morgan that is just so precious! Obama has shown so much "judgment" on who he has surrounded himself with that something like 75% of everyone he has hung out has had to be discarded, i.e. thrown under the bus.
- Mike, Concord

I'm actually more surprised that the media has given such a pass on McCain. You may say it is biased coverage, but every flub Obama makes is widely publicized. Where is deeper discussion of the fact that McCain has no economic policy really? He has vague notions of cutting spending but the time frame on which he will do that changes weekly.

I also find the lack of experience argument amusing, experience doesn't matter nearly as much as judgement does. How many decisions do you think the President makes entirely independently? Virtually none. So what counts is whether Obama will surround himself with good people. McCain has already shown poor judgement in who he picks, take Gramm's "whining" comment for example.
- Morgan, Denver, CO

It makes perfect sense that someone who gets their news from the Huffington Post would not see any liberal bias in the mainstream media. It also explains why someone would not understand the difference between an editorial attributed to a named editor and a "news" article attributed to an anonymous AP stringer. The only puzzle for me is how they keep the tinfoil helmets from slipping down over their eyes while they type!

"There are none so blind as those who will not see. The most deluded people are those who choose to ignore what they already know." (John Heywood)
- Todd C., Klamath Falls, OR

Given the fact that most Barry "The Messiah Hussein" Obama supporters won't change their opinion of him regardless of the facts put forth,I'll save the pearls and avoid irritating the swine.

JUST SAY NOBAMA/NO NEOMARXISTS '08

Oh,almost forgot.Considering that the front page editorials seem to really put the moonbats into a tail-spin,KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK JOE. ;o)
- Mike P., Manchester

Scariest part about this whole topic is not only "Obama", but more so the People (Idiots) in this country willing to vote for him...Now that is scary.
- Mike, Nashua

I quit watching the media coverage a while back during the primary campaign. The biased coverage was so blatant and bothersome it wasn't worth my time. I try to find articles on-line or in magazines that represent each candidate more honestly and believe me, it isn't easy. Given all of the media time Obama gets it really is surprising he isn't further ahead of McCain nationally in the polls. I guess free media coverage can't even help him improve his standing among many.
- Bren, Minneapolis, MN

The media loved McCain and Obama and helped them every step of the way. They savaged Clinton, an easy target, and shamelessly slimed squeaky clean Romney every chance they got. Now they can admit McCain is just a toy for their amusement and devote their love to their New Messiah.
- Michaelangelonio, Pittsburgh

Obama is an "American Idle" candidate that this country can ill-afford as President; hopefully, the voting public will wake up quick and McCain will win the landslide victory he deserves; the Democratic Party is going down in flames, too (deservedly so).
- SlowBurn, Phoenix, AZ

Notice that Faux News isn't mentioned in that article? On that network all you hear about is McCain.

Perhaps a little political bias on the part of the writer?
- Bill, Tuftonboro

Obama is CHAIRMAN of the senate panel on Afghanistan. He touts how now we must do some urgent action in Afghanistan and yet he help not ONE SINGLE MEETING while chairman.

This guy is the lamest, emptiest, suit every. He makes me sick. Nothing but nonstop BS. Con men always think they are so smart and everyone else is so stupid and that they can BS their way in/out of every situation. Thtis is Obama and that is why he will lose in November. He's fool the young and brainless but that's it.
- Mike, Concord

McCain is the national nominee-to-be with many thanks due to this paper's aggressive, front-page, anti-Romney, pro-McCain editorials and articles leading up to the NH primary.

Everything is fair and balanced when it's in favor of the "right" candidate, huh?
- Steve, Manchester

Republicans can compalin all they want about the Quantity of coverage associated w/Obama. The breakdown of time, if true, IS, in fact, a function of "bias" however not the "bias" Repubs like to complain about. The media is biased in favor of RATINGS and the Fact is people want to know about more about Obama and the excitement he is generating. If the old man was exciting or had something new to say perhaps it would generate more coverage. I would say that the media has been kind to McCain regarding his, and his associates, frequent gaffes("Nation of Whiners" Sunni/Shiite confusion, Chechoslovakia). If Repubs really want equal coverage for their Puppet/Candidate they better be careful what they wish for. If any McCain supporter were to really think about it they would see that the lack of coverage is the best thing he has going for him. Of course any one who has really thought about it is not likely to want to continue the Bush Policies McCain endorses.
- Chris, Epping

the anchors had to go with obama....you can't expect a senator to carry his own bags...
- francis, paterson, nj

Are you serious James from Derry? Sure, it's fun to watch the candidates take jabs at each other. It's vituperative when all major networks are so obvious in their ubiquitous support of Obama. News anchors are supposed to be UNBIASED. News organizations are supposed to be UNBIASED (editorials excluded, of course). Even an avid Obama supporter can't realistically claim that ABC, CBS or NBC have maintained their journalistic integrity for some time, and their jumping on Obama's plan while vitually ignoring McCain's previous trips abroad is proof further.
- Lisa Adams, Burleson, Texas

The two main candidates are a socialist and a communist. Their positions on most issues are identical. They both want amnesty for illegal aliens (oops undocumented workers), want to expand socialized medicine, both are members of the trilateral commission, both love the UN, neither one undrstands the Constitution as written, both are for gun control (McCain wanted to ban semi-auto's and gun shows), both back the North American Union, etc, etc, etc. The only candidate that agrees with James Madison is Bob Barr. How come he is all but ignored by the news media. And before you say he is a minior candidate, in 1856 the Republicans were a minor candidate. If the God Owful paty keeps pushing socialists down our throats they will go the way of the Whigs.
- Howard Last, Cheyenne, WY

Can anybody tell me what qualify's Barack Obama for the office of President? I truely do not believe that this is the man we should entrust the safety of America to. Obama has not fought for this country, he's only been a Senator for a reletively short period of time and has no credentials that he can present as qualifications to be president. Why is the Media flocking to this guy as though he's the greatest thing since the invention of Electicity? On another note why is it Obama supporters can only make disparaging about Senator McCain but can't boast of Senator Obama's qualifications? Seems I'm still waiting for an answer to my first question/
- Rob, Manchester

It should come as no surprise anyone that the networks are pro-Obama and are anxious for change. They are blantantly bias toward the Democrats on a regular basis. The only exception is Fox News which gets bashed for being too conservative.
9 months ago, I believed that any Democrat was a slam dunk winner this election. Combination of 8 years of W, Iraq, the economy, etc have led to general unrest. I now believe that Obama is vulnerable for a number of reasons. Too bad John McCain is his opposition. The Republicans picked the worse possible candidate to run against Obama. He is too old and too out of touch. He's irascible and cheeky. He stumbles and bumbles at every press conference. But most importantly, he has not delineated what he'd do differently than W or Obama. He has pretty much insured an Obama victory in November. Well the upside is that at least it is not Hillary Clinton...
- Rick M, Londonderry

What many posters are missing is the fact that the news media is invited to attend these events. I think the measure of a man can be seen with these two caniadates, McCain makes frequent visits and doesn't beg every major news organization to join him, Obama does. On this one issue I agree with article, the media is in the bag for Obama because Obama needs them to make his campaign and movement work so he begs them to follow so intimately.

As for the canidates, it is said that this is the best that both parties could give us. An empty suit and then a guy who is only a Republican in name. The reality is McCain has made his career off of two things 1. Being a former P.O.W. 2. Sticking his finger in the eye of the Republican Party. The other reality is that Obama needs more experience and perspective. He makes John Edwards of '08 look conservative.

Finally, for those that complain of the use of the word orgy, if your child can read the newspaper then they can ready a dictionary. Do not try to hijack the english language and pingeon hole words to one meaning.
- Rick, Manchester

Wow, enough already! I am an Obama supporter, and I love politics!! This would not be an election of you couldn't criticize one of the people running Get a grip! I love to see both of them take their jabs at each other and battle it out to become the leader of the free world. May the best man win because regardless of all of you arguing with each other about "jabs" one of these men will be our next president. Lets just all thank god it is not George W. Bush! (See what I did! I criticized a political figure! Shame on me! )
- James, Derry

As per Drudge:

"An editorial written by Republican presidential hopeful McCain has been rejected by the NEW YORK TIMES -- less than a week after the paper published an essay written by Obama, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned."

"The paper's decision to refuse McCain's direct rebuttal to Obama's 'My Plan for Iraq' has ignited explosive charges of media bias in top Republican circles."
- Joe, Manchester

MSM's bias was staggering. CNN fell on board pretty quickly though they maintained a patina of credibility at least. But to see all three networks send their ANCHORS on the trip is shocking. OF course they should have coverage of the trip, but that level of support for Obama from the free press means Democracy is dead in this country. The terrorists have won.
- Michaelp0429, Portland, OR

Wow, that same 'liberal media' that didn't do it's job in the run-up to the Iraq war and turned John McCain into the 'maverick' folk hero is biased towards Obama? Is that why they spend their time talking about Rev. Wright and Tony Rezko instead of Hagee, Falwell, Robertson and the Karl Rove crowd who are all backing McCain 100%....?
McCain supporters should probably be more careful about throwing stones when their house is made of very thin glass. Last time I checked, the Republicans were much better at smearing their opponents than the Democrats, but maybe that's just the biased media making them look bad.
- Daniel, Nashua

It seems most people don't really understand the media. The media is neither liberal nor conservative, they are only interested in a good story that attracts viewers. Obama is a great story. Besides his eloquence, consider the fact that he is a no-name junior Senator that has a good chance to become President. For those who say he hasn't run anything before, I think the Clinton's, and McCain would beg to differ. His organization ran the former into the ground and seems poised to do the same to the latter. That is a good story and all the media is interested in. If McCain had this story, they would be featuring him. Again, the media is pretty simple to understand. They ONLY care about viewership, readership and ratings. Period. As a perfect example, I give you the title of the article above.
- H. Brown, New York, NY

The public is well aware of the media bias in favor of Sen. Obama. The Rasmussen reports the public's opinion today: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/belief_growing_that_reporters_are_trying_to_help_obama_win.

Both the Rasmussen & the Gallup reported that the public also believed the media was biased in his favor during the Democratic primary race. One wonders if Sen. Obama would be the nominee if the media had reported the Rev. Wright sermons in January instead of mid-March, when they were forced to do so by bloggers.

Clearly the media installed Sen. Obama as the Democratic nominee. Can they also install him in the White House? Polls showing a narrow lead for Sen. Obama suggest it might be difficult.

The media is no longer a source of information. Rather it is a source of opinion. As the media dies, what will replace it? Ignorance or self-investigation as "reported" on the internet. Perhaps the outcome of the presidential race will help to answer this question.
- Mary, Oakland, CA

I'm gonna have to call b.s. on Tom's comment. When the media gets a hold of a negative story or gaffe made by Obama, that's when the real orgy starts. Remember Reverand Wright? And then how much did we here about Mccain's actively pursuing the endorsment of multiple anti-semite wacko preachers.

An even more recent example comes to mind. Barack had been hounded by the right wing echo chamber for not having been to Iraq this year. Surely if he saw the "success" the surge has brought he'd change his mind about withdrawal. The SECOND Obama displayed an open mind about the issue he got jumped on, by right wingers and mainstream press (with operations like FAUX News it can be hard to tell the difference).

What about Mccain's flip flops on the Bush tax cuts?

The historic nature of the Obama campaign is somewhat to blame, both for the coverage of his gaffes as well as for the author's perceived gap in coverage. The fact is Mccain's just not all that interesting. He was in 2000 when he was push polled to death by Rove operatives in South Carolina. He was when he was one of the lone GOPers standing up to what we all now agree were Bush's mornonic policies.

Now that he's sucked up to the Bush clan and flipped half of his stances he's not intersting. He's revealed himself to be just another disingenuous politician.
- Sasha, Brookline

There's nothing dishonorable in a person rethinking his or her positions, especially in a constantly changing political context. Barack Obama contradicts and threatens everything I believe about the institution of the family and what is best for the nation. Obama's radical positions on life, marriage and national security leaves only one choice: John McCain
- Peter Walsh, Newmarket, NH

The bias being shown in favor of Barack Hussein Obama is disgusting and terrifying. It is the death of democracy when the free press monolithically backs one candidate, one party.
- Tom, Campton

"I had learned not to care. I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years. Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though. ..." -- Barack Obama
- Dave, Manchester

Truthfully, McCain withers when in the media spotlight, so he's quite fortunate that the light shines on Obama so brightly. As an Obama supporter, I would love to see more coverage of McCain.
- Tom, Manchester

Define irony: Obama supporters decrying an editorial for being biased (which, by nature, they are) while Barack gets a free pass in every major media outlet, whose job it is to bring the people unbiased news. It would be funny if it wasn't such a sad commentary on politics today.

McCain has been to warzones multiple times, but he never receives coverage such as the burst of lovey-dovey, softball "journalism" as was seen this weekend. Maybe he can tell the troops how he feels the surge would just make things worse in Iraq. Oh that's right, he doesn't feel that way anymore since he was proved wrong.

Tsk, tsk Candy. Your post is ageist. Don't you know that judging someone on something like their age, race, or religion is bigotry? And as a cutesy bumper sticker once told me, hate is not a family value. Then again, the media has constantly reminded us how old McCain is, so it's not surprising.
- Tom, Rochester

Matt,

What exactly is the "change" that Obama is planning?
It's fun to say "change" but I have yet to hear what exactly it is.
All talk with no substance...and all of the Libs are buying it.
- Greg L, Hudson

The statistics don't lie. The MSM bias for Obama has been overwhelming. As a career professional in my own profession, it is hard to respect Journalism as a profession, when it cannot produce a fair, objective recitation of news with a balance to the issues.

As an older reader, I can readily recognize biased reporting... and I simply do not support it. I haven't watched a Broadcast (ABC,NBC,CBS) news program in many years. I don't buy the New York Times.

I do like the full spectrum of opinions on the issues, but don't present me with an opinion dressed up as 'news' as you would like me to believe it.
- BillSanford, Grand Rapids, MI

I love all the people commenting about how Obama has changed positions like John McCain is some "authentic straight talker" who has his convictions and sticks with them. Since the last time McCain ran for president eight years ago, he's changed his position on almost every major issue imaginable. Whether it's abortion (a pretty big "morality" issue for Republicans), tax cuts (another big issue for republicans), campaign finance reform (now not supporting his own bill of a few years ago), torture, etc., John McCain has thrown his convictions out the window for political expediency. So the question is do we want to elect a young, exciting Democrat who changes his positions based on the audience he's speaking to, or an old, retread Republican who does the same? Given the state of the economy and people's generic desire for "change" in Washington, I think Obama has the upper hand.
- Dan, Manchester

The media has picked their candidate. They have done it before and they have done it again. They'll be quick to deflect blame when the country wakes up and realizes they have elected another Jimmy Carter.

Obama's politics are scary, and the media isn't interested in asking questions. They are not doing their job. In their minds, their job is done.
- chuckiechan, Antelope, CA

Another front page editorial? At least it wasn't the headline this time! Front page news is front page news - not opinion forced onto readers and subscribers. When I want opinions, I'll read them in the Editorial section, thank you.

Certainly the intent of the term "orgy" was meant to attract the reader's eye, therefore, prompting to read further. The word is synonymous with behavior that would be considered most inappropriate.

I don't think Mr. McCain would approve, if he is the man and leader of integrity that he is known to be.
- Annette, Manchester

The reason for the bias is that the news media judge the democrats on their intentions not on their results. History has shown that much of our welfare programs do not help the poor but rather hurt them. Year after year we pour money into education and yet 75% of black are illiterate. If McCain has an Education bill he supports for $2.6 billion and Obama has one for $3.1 billion then it is obvious to the news media Obama is more for education then McCain.
- Michael Cybulski, Katy TX

America needs a leader - not a symbol (of post-industrial post-racial post-whatever). Symbols unfortunately look great on TV - symbols sell.

B.O. is a brand. B.O. is an embarrassment just as was/is G.W.B.

McCain has devoted his life to serving the American people - unlike G.W.B., he's not in it to make his friends rich. Unlike B.O. he's not in it to stroke his own ego.

I'm a democrat for McCain - may the best man win.
- benita canova, new york, new york

Wow...reading the posts here reminds me of Bill and Hillary Clinton's hit team. You all know what I mean...that is where you take a pointed piece on the opposition candidate (Obama in this case) and contort the debate to the point where none of the pointsmade are addressed, but instead attack the source.

Some of the posts had me in side-splitting laughter...such as Matt from Washington who first states, "It is the Union Leader that (sic) always exhibits a blatant bias." ok...you made the statement, the least you could do is give an example of how. But from there it only gets better...Matt goes on to opine, "The media is giving Obama more coverage because he is offering a change from the failed policies of the Bush Administration. McCain is offering more of the same.

So Matt, if I understand the latter portion of your post, you imply (or state) that the major media has a specific policy agenda and they (the media) has determined in their wisdom, that Obama has far better policies? So if the media is taking a policy position, isn't that more than just reporting the facts? That is not a blatant bias?

I certainly do not care for McCain at all...but the fact remains Barack Hussein Obama is an empty suit.

and to RTC in Epping...as a person who is no fan of McCain whatsoever, I challenge you to show me a presidential candidate anywhere in this country's history who did not have some greater or lesser foible, transgression or other wrong-doing smattered throughout the press. Then you minimize the issue of the 114 minutes of the ObamaJama Fest...If that isn't an advocacy of Obama, I certainly do not know what is...Bozo the Clown is looking down from heaven and is proud of many of you.
- Rick Olson, Manchester

The national news media will be, as it has been for close to 50 years, in the tank for the most liberal presidential candidate. They exhibit this bias not just in the tenor of their news coverage, but in the stories they choose to emphasize, e.g., Obama's international trip, but not McCain's. Even if you want to believe that the UL skews its news coverage (not op/eds, but actual news) to the right, the UL isn't national in reach. But the broadcast networks and major dailies (NY Times, LA Times, Washington Post, etc.) reach an audience of millions across the country, and that fact is what makes their bias so powerful. This is just a fact of life for the conservative candidates, unfortunately.
- Rick, Portsmouth

Wow, an orgy!!! Good use of sensationalism to get some readership, stooping. If you actually look at the article there is 1 "statistic" with no information about it and bunch of filler.
Wonder why the article didn't simply read:

Obama gets more tv time than McCain (114 to 48). This would generate some trashy (as we've witnessed) discussion posts.

Did the writer think for a second of possible factors influencing this "data"? Obama just recently locked up the dem nomination. He was in an epic battle with HRC and they've since come together. McCain has shown what happens when you secure the monimation in Feb, no interesting stories, he's still working on his policy platform and trying to clean house - no not intended as a knock, easy McCain supporters.
- Mark, Manchester

For those of you who drank the Obama Kool-Aid, consider this- the man who is actively promoting "change" and "leadership" has no experience in either. He has not run a corner store, nor a million dollar nor billion dollar corporation. He hasn't even run a non-profit organization. He hasn't run a law firm. He hasn't run a town, city, county or even state. He hasn't run a school or farm. And he wants to run an entire country? He voted "present" 130 times while a state legislator. That's leadership? Now his TV ads say he passed this and that piece of legislation. He passed nothing. He is only 1/535th member of the U.S. Congress, it takes an entire legislative body to pass legislation- he did not do it alone.

B.T.W.- I'm not a McCain fan and will not be voting for that socialist either!
- Brian, N. Sutton

We all have something to write or say. Just like a newspaper as the right to print what they want right or wrong. We have the right to believe in what we want.
If you do not like it don't buy it.
Poor OBAMA, stop your belly aching. Im voting McCain.
- mo baxter, plymouth

Folks, even the anchor of CNN's "Reliable Sources" program yesterday, the Washington Post's Howard Kurtz, was forced to hold up the DOZENS of fawning magazine covers about Obama and say "ENOUGH." The bias is real, and its obvious that the print and broadcast media are in the tank for Obama BIG TIME.
- Stephen A., Manchester

The joke is on you when you will realize that your "celebrity candidate" is nothing but a freshman who knows very little about what he is doing, hence the need to finally travel abroad, and he will return with the same naivity he went when he sticks to plans that don''t work. You will be standing with the other millions who have made a huge mistake in supporting a child for the Presidency.
- Rich & Charlotte Kean, Exeter, NH

You're kidding me right?
McCain had the week that would have ended anyone’s campaign.
McCain unambiguously called Social Security "an absolute disgrace."
McCain's top economic policy adviser calls Americans a bunch of "whiners" for being worried about the slumping economy.
Iraqi leaders call for a timetable for U.S. withdrawal, McCain gets caught in a bizarre denial and flip flop
McCain makes a joke about killing Iranians
McCain distorts his record on veteran’s benefits in response to a question from Vietnam Veteran, who then proceeds to call McCain out on it.

The only place you heard about this was Huffington Post and Countdown.

Come back to earth Mr. McQuaid.
- Kellie, Hudson

I'm a dem and I can't believe that fellow dem's are standing behind this man. All he has is a t-shirt logo. He keeps going back on his word and his followers just keep chanting. If you stop for a moment and think about it you followers are doing the very thing we shook our heads at when people voted for Bush.
I have no idea who I will vote for in November.
- Maria, Manchester

Thank God for FOX news.
- kirk, philadelpia,pa

Matt, Like your comment and many others who think the same, you are under a false impression and assume to think that McCain is the same as Bush, which he is not- You really should read more.
- Kenny Tillman, Salem, NH

Obama is no longer a political campaign. Obama has become a secular religion with its own messiah.

I find this incredibly disturbing. Politicians in America should have supporters. NOT FOLLOWERS. NOT EVER.

Obama...has followers, complete with the beatific smiles of Moonies.
- Mike R., Bedford

It is the Union Leader that always exhibits a blatant bias. The media is giving Obama more coverage because he is offering a change from the failed policies of the Bush Administration. McCain is offering more of the same.
- Matt, Washington

It looks like Mr McQuaid got the memo from Roger Ailes (via Chris Wallace) yesterday: "Cherry-pick these specific stats that show liberal bias instead of using all stats(which shows fair coverage overall). By doing this, we can sway public opinion towards our side."
- Breyer S., Manchester, NH

Obama needs a couple more years of actual experience to even rise to the level of an empty suit. As it is now he is giving actual empty suits someone to point at and say, "At least I've done more than that guy".
- Jeff, New York

I always get amusement out of the comments left on the Union Leader website. It's a safe-haven for anti-intellectual political rants that go nowhere. That goes for both "Democrats" and "Republicans".

It's interesting that people are so unable to make up their own minds that they must identify with a "political party" and accept its platform as infallible dogma. Nobody here has proven one damn political point. Rather, you're only proving that groupthink is alive and well in America.

Now, I never thought Joe McQuaid's opinion pieces were ever particularly insightful. They're really not. But my god... the comments left here aren't even as profound as the pro-skub/anti-skub debates currently raging on the internet.

But hey, keep up the good work. It makes for good entertainment.
- Tom, Plymouth

114 minutes vs 48 minutes of network covergae -- that's your proof? How much of the 114 minutes of Obama coverage was negative, ie. Michelle Obama's patriotism, Rev Wright, and so-called flip-flops?

If the national media actually covered John McCain and reported his unethical behavior, lies about lobbyists, and personal foibles, he'd get way more coverage than Obama.
- Jack, Franconia

UL, good editorial. I appreciate you shining a light on the bias of the national media.

Apparently, some of the earlier commenters do not understand the difference between an editorial and news. I'm not surprised that these confused haters are Obama supporters. Here endeth the lesson.
- C.A. Berry, Derry

Joseph McQuid, you are a week late in reporting these findings, and you didn't even do the research to explain the discrepancies.
- Justin, Boston

The blatant bias of the major State news media the Union Leader and WMUR Channel 9 toward Libertarians now so overwhelming that it would be worth noting, except that the election of candidates for New Hampshire and the United States are involved. It is a propaganda blitz that would make the owners blush………. The outrageous imbalance in the major media's coverage of the candidates means that the NH. Attorney General should make them register as a political committee (as New Hampshire requires) New Hampshire voters are going to have to work doubly hard to make the right choice in these perilous times.
Ken Blevens is a Libertarian and the candidate for U.S. Senate.
- Libertarian Ken Blevens, Bow

Wow are there some bitter liberals on here.

Jim: You should be handing your daughter a dictionary so she can learn the definitions of those words.

Brian: Ok then stop reading here. Go read your liberal-stanced newspapers and nod in agreement with the rest of the brainwashed folk these days.

Candy: Are you on here to spew your hatefulness? I certainly don't want a president who has such hateful followers. Perhaps you should stuff some more envelopes for Obama.

I am scared for this election, folks. Like Paul from Manchester said, I have no idea what Obama stands for. He has flip-flopped so much I don't even think he knows what he stands for.
- Sara D., Manchester, NH

This Idiot ( Obama) is still topic of conversation? Geesh. Doesn''t the media understand how foolish they will look when this incompetent person embaresses them after they have spent endless hours talking about him? They will.
- Mark HArris, Brentwood, NH

Are you serious? McCain was caught on camera several times making very basic and elementary mistakes regarding middle-east issues. He doesn't know the difference between Sunni and Shiite, and still thinks that the Iranians have anything to do with AlQueda, despite several government reports to the contrary. Not just that, but he has also been caught on camera several times joking about attacking a sovereign country. War is no joke, and McCain should know that. You would think that, as a Vietnam vet, he would be intimately aware of the difficulties in maintaining a military presence and supporting an unpopular government in country that does not want us there. Shame on him.
He is not commander-and-cheif material.
- joe T, derry, NH

"I can't wait to see the old fella ground down to dust during the debates! "

That is so comical and devoid from realty. When Obama isn't reading from a script that someone else wrote, he's dumber than a box of rocks and the huge number of gaffs he's made proves that. The coward will not debate McCain.
- Joe, Manchester

The comment about debates is really hilarious. You do realize that Obamessiah has NO ability to speak off-script, off-teleprompter and address any issue in detail. All he offers is a lot of puffery and platitudes which appeals to non-thinking people who cannot come up with one good reason to vote for their candidate except a lot of venom and Bush-bashing. McCain will clean the messiah's clock in the debates. Why do you think Obama would not accept the invitation to do the town hall meetings? The messiah cannot handle interaction in a town hall style debate. He is only good at revival meetings where he can cause all the good sheeple to have Obamagasms with his every pointless meaningless word. Good luck with that.
- Mark, Amherst

I can't imagine why the Union Leader is criticizing Sen. Obama with its strong record of Republican bias. William and Nacky Loeb would be proud.

The real focus is the news media - it is the one focusing on the presidential race. But then the paper would have to criticize its own.
- Leonard Campbell, Center Harbor, NH

The three TV news anchors accompanying Obama are doing so to help him produce glorious campaign footage. See Obama pat little Afghan children on the head! See him distribute Milky Way candy bars! See him nod his head in solemn agreement while in the midst of 'diplomacy.' All of this will be caught on film with a huge 'Hooray!' by Katie, Brian, and Charlie. But since these media outlets are only preaching to the liberal choir (others having abandoned TV news years ago), there's nothing new except these bleeding liberal watchers saying, 'SEE? We told you that he was a Messiah!'
- Chris, Brookline

I can understand the editorialists frustration. Where Obama goes, people actually show up with excitement and vigor. Recent polls have shown that only 9% of McCain's supporters are excited about the election. You, sir, are in rarified air... 9% of 40% of the American people.
- steve boyington, Chester

Good posts here! Pretty funny really, where are the lockstep GOP shut-ins when you need them Joe?

McCain is a has-been, and news people want nothing to do with has-beens. I can't wait to see the old fella ground down to dust during the debates! John McCain will age 20 years in the next three months, that should be worth covering.
- Candy Pelletier, Manchester

Interesting responses from the Obama supporters, taking thier usual "don't you dare say anything negative" approach. They still can not articulate anything Obama wants to do except raise taxes on everyone who earns an income (the rich) and make it easier for the corrupt unions to physically intimidate folks into joining. RTC may wish what has been written about Obama's preacher, real estate deals and and foreign policy were lies but while they haven't always painted a clear picture they are far closer to truth, which Obama's supporters and handlers do not wish the voters to see. McCain isn't perfect, nor really a conservative, he's not a liberal or "progressive" either, but he is a candidate moderate republicans and democrats, the majority of voters, should feel comfortable. Unlike Obama, who is consistently the most "progressive " member of congress by his scant voting record, McCain is very much middle of the road.
- Jeff, Goffstown

>>"Editorials on the front page reason number 1 why after living in NH for 37 years I have never bought a copy of your newspaper. "

Oh Good God! The liberal press has been doing that day in and day out for the past 60 years and yet some shreik when a non-liberal paper apears to do the same. What flaming hypocricy and blindness!
- Joe, Manchester

Editorials on the front page reason number 1 why after living in NH for 37 years I have never bought a copy of your newspaper. The sooner this political rag goes under the better off this state will be
- BRIAN, CONCORD

Is there anyone who still believes in this complete and utter fraud??!! Obama has exposed himself to be a pathological liar. Most politicians will "adjust" a position or two depending on where/who they are speaking, but Obama has done that on every single position. I've never seen a bigger political whore and what makes it worse is his now absurd claim to bge above politics. The fact that this empty suit has the unmitigated gall to run for president with no real experience, having accomplished nothing, is stunning and shows how delusional he is. It's some kind of Messiah complex you find in deranged cult leaders.
- Paul, Manchester

We definitely need more coverage of McCain's intimate knowledge...american's can walk freely around iraq you know, and general Petrais routinely goes around unarmed. Or maybe you'ld like to here him talk of the economy which he admits t knowing little about, that's not important anyway though.
- justin lussier, pembroke

Obama, yes? Obama and orgy together, No! Save the word orgy when talking about Mr. Bill Clinton. Please don't ruin a good name with such a fowl word. That would be like putting Sen. McCain together with Sponge Bob Square Pants...Thanks for listening.
- Robert M Tarr, Manchester

Horrendous title as I now have to make sure my 10 year old, who is following the campaign closely, does not read this article and google the term orgy, even though Joe's use is correct and the third definition on Webster's is Uncontrolled or immoderate indulgence in an activity; the first definition is A revel involving unrestrained indulgence, especially sexual activity. Use a thesaurus and show some class that you understand most of your readers don't have a Master's in English.
- Jim, Manchester

Since you run a statewide paper and are blatantly biased in favor of McCain, this editorial is both hypocritical and dishonest.

It really amazes me how a man of supposed education and intelligence like yourself can stoop into the slime and print nonsense like this under your name.

You tally up some meaningless numbers of network time and act like it means something. What did the 114 minutes of Obama consist of? Lies about his real estate deals, more lies about his former preacher, lies about his foreign policy plans?

Meantime, your corrupt old man McCain manages to squeeze out of the swamp of the Keating Five like it never even happened, and live off the $100 million forturne of the mistress that he betrayed his first wife for.

Every editorial you write must make William Loeb a little prouder.
