AMEN Seth and Chris! Everybody went home safe that night to their families! That is what REALLY matters! Epping Police caught the criminal based upon Sgt Nye's experience and level headed thinking. I commend him for not putting himself or any body else in danger.
- Christina Lailer-Nye, Epping, NH
Sgt. Nye called off the pursuit because of the existing conditions. The operator of the other vehicle was driving with reckless abandon and no amount of skillful driving would have stopped him. Sgt. Nye did the right thing and shut it down, for his safety and the safety of the public.
Pursuits are examined with a fine tooth comb and is often a buzz-word for social commentary. If the police don't catch the bad guy or make the intelligent decision to call it off, we got beat or are inept. If we over pursue a man who stole a TV and he crashes and kills himself or someone else, then we are murderers.
Bottom line is, the officers involved did their job. No one was hurt and the man who committed the crime is getting arrested.

Sally: Question to you - what does it matter what any employee of that department do on their time off? I'm sure you aren't suggesting that they are hunting while on duty, so who are you to comment on what they do on their time off? And what does it matter to you how many stinking turkeys they had on their Thanksgiving table??? Let me guess, your one of those who think we should ALL HAVE THE SAME THING ON OUR THANKSGIVING TABLE??? Even if I work for mine and you go to the food bank for yours, we should all have the same, right??? Give me a break.
- Sue, Rochester
Nottinham Police are lazy and are never available. The chief and Sergeant are too busy hunting to work. How many turkeys did they have for their table this year?
- Sally, Nottingam
Are you people kidding?! You complain about police getting in a pursuit every other time... saying its dangerous and not worth someone getting hurt... but THIS TIME when they do the right thing and call the pursuit off you complain they should have chased him. wow. Just wow.
- Chris, Goffstown
WOW - the police can't win for losing can they? If they continue the pursuit on a rainy night with slick roads and an innocent person, or heck, the criminal dies, then it's, "Why didn't the police break off the pursuit once they got the plate?" In this case, they followed protocol by making an evaluation and coming to the decision that a property crime wasn't worth the risk to other driver's, the bad guy or the officers so the pursuit was terminated and the bad guy was eventually caught.
Give some credit where credit is due....NICE JOB to all of the officer's involved in Epping and Raymond during this pursuit!
- Frank Shirley, Raymond
And why didn't Wal Mark Loss Prevention catch this theft? It's a TV!
- Cindy, Manchester
Wow...another one for the "Moron of the Year" award! Jeez, it's bad enough he's confronted in the store, but then in the parking lot and he still thinks he can get away with stealing it?!?!
And why couldn't the Epping police officer continue pursuit until he knew for sure a Nottingham office had picked up the pursuit? A would be criminal almost got away because he dropped the pursuit!
- Mike, Epping
The Nottingham police were not able to pick up the suspect because the police department closes at 3:30pm.
- Em, Nottingham
