Sept. 14, 2009 santa logo 70px

Last year, the Union Leader Santa Fund raised a record $323,220. With a 20 percent spike in requests this year for the Salvation Army's help, Maj. Greg Hartshorn hopes the Santa Fund's 50th anniversary will work the same kind of magic.

John of Dover: ". . . In other words, you start to make a comparison but fail to complete that comparison." == This quoted part is the crux of the issue I raised to the editors. If they had done their job completely, then the comparison would have been clearly stated. Even you imply in your post that the comparison is not clear.

"With a 20 percent spike in requests this year"

Seems to me the number of requests are up 20% from last year, it's in the second paragraph. That was a tough find.

Oh, and 1 year is 12 months.

20% higher = Bhutanese refugees

Editors: Your story title is not sufficiently informative. ". . . Santa Fund requests running 20 percent higher. . " == higher than what? That is to ask, higher than last year? higher than last month? higher than average? In other words, you start to make a comparison but fail to complete that comparison.
