By LORNA COLQUHOUN
New Hampshire Union Leader Correspondent

The calendar may say October but the most northern part of the state has a wintry look this morning. The season's first snow brought up to three inches of snow in some areas. In Dummer, one car slid into the Pontook Reservoir, but no injuries were reported.

It's not warming. That's a huge problem for people who claim that mankind is 100% in control of the long-term climate and all we have to do is stop using carbon and the world will cool. Nonsense. The earth has been FAR hotter than this (Maunder Minimum) it's been colder, too (Little Ice Age) and mankind had NOTHING to do with the past 4 billion years of incredibly cold ice ages and warming periods.

Warming Evangelists need to learn that human beings are like the guy who shows up at a movie during the last 3 seconds of the end credits rolling. It makes no sense to say "If we don't do anything, the lights will come up!" We just got here, chronologically, and to say we are causing climate changes on such a grand scale is ludicrous, just as those who say we have NO effect would be dead wrong, too.
- Stpehen A., Manchester

Wow how sad. A story on snow and people make it about politics and lying scientists. What a miserable bunch you all are.
- Sue, Bedford

Note: Global warming is melting the ice caps. The cold water from the melting enters the warm ocean cooling the ocean. In turn the planet is cooling down, FROM THE GLOBAL WARMING. This was not making sense to people so the changed it to CLIMATE CHANGE. Much to the relationship from the swim flu having NOTHING to do with pigs, however people banned pigs from country fairs because the dumb people of the world didn't get a clue. Nough Said!
- Dan Lev, Manchester

There is no logic to the arguments here. It's the equivalent of someone pointing to a warm day in the winter as the end all, be all proof that global warming is happening. If someone said that as proof of global warming the people here would rightly dismiss them.

The science of climate change (both warming and cooling) is far more complicated than a one day event.

Show me anywhere that peer reviewed studies show that a majority of scientists do not believe that climate change is real.

Then show me peer reviewed studies that show a majority of scientists don't believe that the 7 billion humans and their activity are affecting climate change.

Then look up the science on what level of change in climate (either cooling or warming) will it take to drastically affect the human population.

Ron in Manchester. To state in passing that the Earth is cooling as though that is the end of the discussion is silly. Provide the names and locations of the studies that show, "a lot of so called scientists are changing their story every day rather than admit they were wrong." Provide names, links and what studies back up your comment.
- John R, Keene

DanR, I suggest you get a grip. The earth has been cooling since 1998. Al Gore is full of baloney and a lot of so called scientists are changing their story every day rather than admit they were wrong.
Global warming became climate change became man modified atmosphere. What will the next fancy name be Dan?
- Ron, Manchester

Sorry DanR...but more and more scientist are starting to jump off the global warming band wagon, you may want to start reading some of the more recent scientific articles yourself. That's not to say that we don't need to watch the burning of fossil fuels, but the impending doom that Al Gore groupies love to talk about is looking less and less likely.

New England is expected to have one of it's coldest winters in over a decade...I suppose we can blame global warming?!?!?!?
- Mike, Epping

Hey DanR,
I've just finished doing some reading on the topic, and human-caused global warming sounds more than ever like bunk to me. Changes in solar radiation levels have caused global warming (and cooling) before humankind even existed.
- Eric, Manchester

Love the comments that are anti-global warming here - just goes to show how ignorant the general population is on the whole process of a man-modified atmosphere. I suggest we all do more reading on the topic.
- DanR, Lancaster

I was REALLY hoping to wake up to even a few flakes this morning.
- Pauline, Franklin

Well, let's just hope this is a sign of a good winter for the ski areas, we could use the revenue (taxes and business) generated by our tourism industry. Maybe this will help to pick some of the recent slack.
- Tom, Manchester

Wait, Is ALGORE coming to speak in northern New Hampshire?? That is what usually causes these freak storms. Mother Nature always finds a way to debunk ALGORE!
- Patricia, Raymond

C in Manch, Don't you know? The colder it gets + the more snow earlier in the fall we get = global warming!

There are countless stories across the globe right now about freezing conditions. The cold causes more death to people than being warm every year.

A movement of people believing they can change the weather and climate of the world? Wow, just when you think you've heard it all.....waste a few more billion dollars and endless time and energy!

When will everyone wake up and see this is all about MONEY. Give me a million bucks and I'll go around promoting global warming too!
- John, Dover

If the ski resorts have a banner year, Lynch will send money to the poor towns out of plow money. If the plows are idle, Lynch will send money to the resorts. Either way he declares it disastrous and we pay.
- Cathleen, Center Barnstead

Somewhere in Washington a Democrat is fast tracking climate change legislation before the lie is completely exposed....
- C, Manchester, NH

MAN the roads are TERRIBLE! Don't they plow?!?!?

Just wanted to be the first one of the season to complain...!
- JB, NB, NH

Hey Al - how bout that GLOBAL WARMING!!
- Harry, Atkinson

Snow! Yes! I can't wait for more snow to go snow shoeing and hiking in!

@Sue Johnson, Epping

I believe it's been snowing in the mountains in Denver for a few weeks, if not month+.
- Jay, Manchester

You can revise the advisory area. It's been snowing in Thornton (Grafton County) since around 7 a.m., just enough to cover the ground and remind me it's time to put the deck chairs and umbrella away..............
- Sandy, Thornton

Transplant from the southern midwest.
Didn't know it could snow this early or this much until I moved to NH. Very interesting!!!!!!!!!
- Sue johnson, epping

Oh happy days are soon to come. Slip sliding and that's just on the sidewalks!
Let's hope Manchester's plowing budget doesn't break the bank this year!
- WTR, Manchester

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...up there. I'm still trying to enjoy fall down here.
- Steve, Derry

Let the fun begin!
- Kevin, Lancaster
