Police reported two alcohol-related single-car crashes within a recent five-hour span.

On Thursday about 11:30 p.m., a 1997 black Lexus ES300 driven by David S.P. Truglia, 23, of Cutchogue, N.Y., struck a telephone pole on Route 124 in the area of the Marlborough quarry, police said. Truglia was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of an intoxicating liquor, police said.

The telephone pole was toppled in the wreck, knocking down wires and a transformer, cutting off electricity in the area.

Police said the car was traveling east and drove onto the road's dirt shoulder before hitting the pole, causing heavy damage to the car's front end.

Truglia refused medical aid, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Keene District Court on June 9.

On Friday about 4 a.m., a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora driven by Douglas E. Oatley II, 23, of Marlborough struck a guardrail on Route 101 in the area of Knowlton Street.

Police said the car was traveling east and went into the breakdown lane before spinning across the road, passing through the westbound lane and hitting the guardrail head-on.

Oatley fled the scene on foot, police said. He was found hiding in woods in Keene across the street from the construction area for the new Cheshire County House of Corrections. He was taken to Cheshire Medical Center with injuries suffered in the accident.

Police charged Oatley with operating under the influence of an intoxicating liquor and conduct after an accident.
