SEVEN SERVICES for the unclaimed remains of seven veterans were conducted consecutively on Wednesday at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery.
The remains were buried one at a time with military honors, including the playing of taps and flag fold.
When a funeral home closed nearly three years ago, the cremated remains of more than 70 people were left unclaimed.
Jill Huckins and her team at the City of Concord Cemetery Division took possession of the remains and researched each person. They were able to identify eight potential veterans, as well as the spouse of one of the veterans.
The staff at the Veterans Cemetery then worked with Veterans Affairs to confirm eligibility of seven of the veterans.
It was determined that plot allowances were previously paid on four of the veterans. The NH Veterans Cemetery Association volunteered to reimburse the state for the four plot allowances and the spouse interment fee — a total of $950.
