CONCORD - The police cruiser lurches to a stop. An officer leaps out, rushing inside for an armed robbery in progress at a convenience store. Within minutes, it’s over, and five people have been shot — three bad guys, a store clerk and a customer. It’s a high-tech simulation, but the emotions and the stress it engenders are very real.
At New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the atmosphere was electric as hundreds of engineering students from all over North America competed in the 18th annual Formula Hybrid + Electric competition, attended by hundreds more high school students considering their career paths.
Ahead of the University of Michigan’s commencement on Saturday, the school has trained staff volunteers in how to mitigate disruptions: a change from the usual duties of guiding guests around campus and showing them to their seats.

More than 100 pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested on college campuses in New Hampshire Wednesday night, including at least 90 at Dartmouth College in Hanover and a dozen at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, officials said.
NEW LONDON — Colby-Sawyer College announced that former academic vice president and Dean of Faculty Laura A. Sykes has been named interim president for the 2024-25 academic year. Sykes will become the first alumna of the institution to hold this leadership position.
