Dozens of Manchester police lined Amherst Street beside Central High School on Thursday afternoon while detectives combed the scene of a fatal attack.
Crime scene tape was put up in the area of the Domino’s and Pizza by Rocco. On the sidewalk near the Domino’s stretching into the roadway, evidence tags marked a bundle of clothes, gloves, a hat and a wallet.
The high school was locked down from shortly after 12:30 p.m. until about 2.
Police at the scene said the assault did not involve students.
Police were called to the area around 12:30 p.m. following reports of an attack.
The incident is being investigated by the Attorney General’s Office and Manchester police, police said in a statement.
According to the police statement, the incident was not school-related.
About 2:30 p.m., the Attorney General’s Office said it was responding to a “suspicious death” at the scene.
“There is no indication that the incident involves any students or firearms,” they said.
Late Thursday night, the AG’s Office issued a statement saying the investigation remains ongoing.
“Manchester Police and the Hillsborough County Attorney’s Office are now leading the investigation and the New Hampshire Department of Justice is assisting,” the statement said. “More information will be released as it becomes available while protecting the integrity of the investigation.”
An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is scheduled for Friday.
