Strange partisan lockstep in recent failed gun control bills
To the Editor: As an independent voter, it is surprising that most of the recent state gun control bills were voted on along party lines. “Gun-Free Zones” are obvious targets of the mentally ill who are intent on causing harm to innocents. Why can’t Democrats understand this? Are they so immersed in the extreme leftist vision of utopia that they cannot comprehend reality? Or are they just worried that they’ll lose the support, monetary or otherwise, that keeps them in office?
We’ve seen time and again that deranged perpetrators of violence have avoided venues where there may be an armed response and moved on to a gun-free zone.
Good guys with guns are the most effective deterrents against someone intending to carry out an illegal violent act. In the U.S., there are at least 1.6 million defensive uses of firearms per year in which firearms owners have defended themselves or their property through the discharge, display, or mention of a firearm, the majority of which are rarely reported in corporate news outlets as it doesn’t fit their agenda. The constant introduction of these unconstitutional bills is a waste of the Legislature’s time and effort.
Democrats in Concord should get their heads out of fantasyland, face reality and uphold their sworn oath to defend the U.S. and state constitutions, not try to contradict them.
